George and Jill,

Congratulations on the future rig.  Maybe we'll see you in Michigan this summer.  Many great parks to enjoy your rig.   H-E-L-L-O

Oh my new Polish Prince friend, you most certainly do not need to apologize.  I am so happy you are ordering what you want, not what I like.  I provide my "other" perspective only so that you can make your own best educated decision in weighing the pros and cons to each choice.

You mentioned receiving your rig in August.  Does it now take 1/2 year to get a special order processed?  Or did you intentionally request the rig to be ready in August?  I wonder when the cut-off is to get the rig built on a 2017 chassis.  I think it might be 4 weeks later.....something to think about.

Welcome!  I notice that Kermit is now offering free delivery to anywhere in the lower 48! You are relatively close to the factory, but that would have saved us $3000 a couple years ago!

Ron, we asked for delivery in August because we have to be on the farm for milking twice a day until then.  Earl said they would probably start the build in late May.

Hello and looking forward to learning more about the PC. I confess I am about 2 months into researching the brands and others are still on the short list. The PC is the one most interesting to me. I have not seen one though.

I mean this in the best of ways but Ron Dittmer is everywhere I read anything about rev's. Especially if I search for PC specific info on any worldly board. I was actually reading a post of his here on the general forum when I got the approval email. He is a great Ambassador for PC.

I am likely about 4-8 months from ordering or buying. It is just me and a dog. As a result I am looking for a small unit (2100,2350.2351,2400) really preferring the smaller with no slide. I will ask more about this and rational for one over the other as I get finished with all the posts. I am on page 18. I see much of my thoughts being answered already but more questions pop up also as I read.

I am caring for my mother who is alert and ambulatory but not wise to leave her alone. Not sure if she would want to be involved with the rv or not but suspect she will for short trips of a couple weeks. She is nearly 86 and my priority in life at this point. Any thoughts on her needs or floorpan specific to this issue is appreciated. I have an suv that she has been all over the country in with 2 very large dogs. So the tight space and inconvenience of that she has no problem with.

Sorry for the long winded intro and I will get back to my forum reading and maybe my taxes.

Jan,
Welcome to the Forum H-E-L-L-O. We have had 3 PC's starting with the 2350, no slide. We were new to the RV world at the time and did not see the need for a slide. What a mistake!! Two PC's without and now the 2910 with the slide. I understand that everyone's needs are different and there are those that swear by the no slide option. Not us. The slide offers so much more living space. My advice is to think carefully what you want/need and how you plan to use the RV now and in the future.

Hi Jan  3>:) (w)

We are on our second PC.  We had a 2350 and now a 2551 both with slides.  Like you, we thought we would enjoy a smaller unit the first time.  We found it to be a little too small for long term travel (3 months at a time).
The 2551 meets our needs perfectly.  The twin beds, compared to the corner bed, and the much larger bathroom are perfect for the two of us.  We even find the 2551 easier to drive then the 2350.

Like Judi said, consider your needs before you buy.  You might also like to rent a unit for a short trip and decide what you like and don't like about it.  If we had rented a unit with a corner bed prior to our first purchase we would not have ordered a 2350.  It is all personal preference.  If you are mostly going to be traveling alone the corner bed could be perfect for you.

Thank you Judi. I am from the Winchester Va area if you know any there. I am not dead set against the slides just thinking not. Many people have a different opinion so my mind is open still. I need to see the models up close and hope to make a trip to the factory in the next few months. I hope a lot will get cleared up, especially a model and slide or no slide.  As far as space goes, I am open to several floor plans but most of my travel will be solo so beyond a 2351 or 2400 is not likely for me. Thanks again.

Thanks for your advice. I must say I do like that model a lot. I like the twin bed plan  and I really like the models that have the dinette option. If I had a DW I would get a larger unit.

I am looking for a small unit (2100,2350.2351,2400)

Jan, I would recommend a full time bed. Several of the smaller units require making up the bed each night and cleaning it up in the morning. You then have to store all the bedding. While it seems like a small thing, it can get old fast. The 2350, 2551 and 2552 have full time beds (corner, twin, twin) and the option to have the electric couch that reclines to any angle and can make into a bed. I personally slept on one half of the couch for 6.5 weeks (and had to make it up and take it apart each night - easy to do, but still...). John and the granddaughter had the twin beds. I was fine on the couch and slept with my head slightly raised instead of putting the couch flat down. This worked well for me.

John and I full timed for a year and half in our 2552 (working half time from the rig) and had periods when we had our granddaughter along with us. The full time bed allowed one of us to lay in bed sick while the other drove when we had to check out of a site (bad bout of the flu at one point). The 2552/2551/2350 configurations also allow one person to be in bed while the other has use of the front of the motorhome (coffee, tv, cooking, computer work, whatever). If the only bed is the convertible couch, you do not have that luxury. While this wouldn't matter if you traveled alone, it will make a HUGE difference if your mother is along.

The twin beds are far easier to get into and out of than the corner bed (again, thinking of your mother). Any of the units are small enough to navigate in even if you are unsteady on your feet. They are all easy to drive. The controls for the awning, slide, water heater, pump, generator, etc. are all push button.

We are temporarily grounded but hoping to get back on the road before long. I will likely have knee surgery before that happens and will still be rehabilitating it. I mention this because I've already thought about how that will affect traveling in the RV when I have limited leg function. The only potentially difficult spot will be the house steps but Phoenix has a long, lighted handle to hold onto to assist in getting in and out so I don't think that will be an issue. It will be easier than the stairs at the house we are in.

If you have specific questions, ask away. If you want privacy, you can send personal messages to any member. I found everyone to be extremely helpful and responsive when I was considering a Phoenix.

It is all personal and my husband and I love our 2100 with slide. No, you do not need to make the sofa bed/couch up each night and unmake in the morning.  I have made custome sheets that stay on the bed with a throw (like a bed spread) over the top when closed. So with the push of two buttons takes less than 5 minutes to open the slid & bed or close. You cannot use the fold down arm with my system.  Others use sleep sacks.

With our 2100 configuration you can make the dinnet into a bed if you do take your mom with.  On the one occassion where there were 3 of us, we also left the dinnet made into a bed and used TV trays and the couch for eat.

If you are going to be driving through Colorado on I-70 we are just a few miles off the highway.  We do head to Tuscon sometimes in the fall (many friends there) and will let you know if that is happening this year.

Hello all.
I am not yet a PC owner.  I did make the pilgrimage to Elkhart so I could spend time sitting in a couple of models to see how "at home" they felt.  And of course opening every cabinet and drawer (even measuring them to help me understand what will fit where). Before that I had watched a zillion of Earl's and Kyle's videos.  And I have read most entries in this forum.  I am old enough to qualify for SS if I wish though I am still doing some remote computer work for software that is reaching its end of life.  My plan is to sell the house and move my animals and myself into the RV and go while I still can.  Mostly I will make use of the Senior pass and stay in the woods and other public lands for most of the year, going to civilization every couple of weeks to shop and do laundry.  I will settle in to the southern areas for the winters. I belong to a couple of RV clubs so I also figure I will attend some gatherings with them.

The 3100 looks like the best PC to handle the critters and myself.  The long hallway makes it feel more open for me. Earl and I have already talked about where to build in a spot for the necessary cat pan.  I like the kitchen all in a line rather than split up (besides having the couch next to the stove would encourage too much help from the dogs I fear).  And I plan on many hours sitting out under that really long patio awning.

Obviously the outside storage will offer me a few challenges.  And I am still debating whether I would try to tow my present car(it can be towed on four wheels) or if I will look for a smaller car to drag along.

I have read the thread about how long some of you go out at a time and I have seen that the 2551 and 2552 seem to be the more popular models.  I am curious if any of you are fulltiming in a PC and if so what stories, hints, nightmares, reality checks, glorious moments, etc. you could share with me.  Thanks to all.

WELCOME!!!   meetya
John and I full timed in our 2552 for a year and half before we were temporarily grounded by family issues. We absolutely loved it, miss it, and plan to hit the road again as soon as things are settled here and then stay on the road until we can't do it anymore. You can click our name to see our posts on this site and our blog name is below my signature on this post. We have not put our first year up on the blog yet mainly because we've been lazy and consistent blogging feels too much like work. There seems to always be something more fun to do.

I do have a few basic things that make it work for us: We carry two weeks worth of clothing... PLUS. So two weeks of slacks and tops, two weeks plus a few extras of everyday socks and undergarments. So far we've always been able to hit a laundromat in a town or campground before we ran out of clean clothing. We also carry the "specials": Cold weather - thin base layer/long underwear, wool sweater or fleece top, warm socks, winter jacket, gloves, warm hats; Hot weather/water sports - wide brim hat, swimsuit and light beach towel, flip flops (double as shower shoes), strap on water shoes (rafting/kayaking), wicking shirt, pants and underwear: work clothing: one set each of something that can get all the goo on it and you are willing to wear crawling under the vehicles - we recently bought Tyvek overalls for something else and think those will be our work coverup when we go back on the road; rain gear - we each have a full rain suit; hiking: hiking boots, socks, trekking poles.

Our kitchen has a full set of decent knives, nesting pans, nesting bowls/colander/strainer/measuring cups, a set of silicone bakeware that mostly nest, etc. The nesting items save an enormous amount of space and it is easy to find things. Most of what we have on board can serve more than one purpose.

One thing I did for months before moving into the RV was to put a paper and pencil in each room of the house - usually taped to the wall or set on a bedside table. Pack or stash all but what you think you will need in the RV then live with it. Pull things out and add to your active items only if necessary. After a while, look at what you started with, what you used and what you added and make sure your "zone" lists are up to date and contain only what you actually need. For example, my bedside table had tissues, chap stick, water bottle, e-reader, neck brace, bandanna (eye cover). All the other stuff that cluttered my night stand weren't necessary so when we moved into the RV, only those items I used regularly went with us and I planned in advance for where they would be stored. We did this for every room. You would do it for your animals also (we did this for our cat - she had a long list and we wound up dedicating a full shelf, plus, to her).

I am working on a cabinet by cabinet, bin by bin inventory of what we carry in our 2552. If you are interested in receiving a copy when I am done, I will be happy to share it with you. Everyone is different but sometimes seeing someone else's list will trigger a thought and plan for your own.

I really like the term "Pilgrimage to Elkhart". Evokes a feeling of wonder and hope.

Enjoy your PC planning and have an awesome life on the road.
