Welcome to the forum.   We are newbie's to PC and class C's.   We don't have enough experience yet to be of much help here on the forum but do read it everyday.  Enjoy your travels in your 3100.

Greetings, All!

I feel privileged to have been granted access to so fine a group of folks.  I’ve scoured through threads and posts within these forums and am impressed with both the level of camaraderie and with the resounding pleasure that your PC environment (company, company individuals, product and fellow owners) has provided to and for you.  Though I don’t yet know you, I already feel as if I am in very good company.

I do not own an RV and have never owned an RV.  But it was something that my wife and I had planned for our retirement.  Though circumstances of life will not allow her to join me on this adventure, she continues to encourage me to become knowledgeable and prepare.  And it is that research that ultimately brought me here.

For me, research is much like putting a jigsaw puzzle together.  You have some semblance of an idea of how the picture should look, but not the sharpness of what the finished item will look like.  As I began to investigate the differing types of classes, I first turned to the Class B (specifically the Mercedes Sprinter) as perhaps being suitable to my needs.  But as I researched and considered other platforms, I found my interpretation of what I thought RV’ing meant to me was in its own state of change.  It has been much like a swinging pendulum… touching all kinds of possibilities… but ultimately settling at the one that kept coming up in those evaluations – the Phoenix Cruiser.  I suspect many of you have been on that very same ride.

In January, I’ll turn 62.  I’m not yet sure whether I’m looking towards later in 2016 or sometime in 2017… but I’m closing in on the purchase of a new PC.  I’m currently leaning towards the 2351.  I like the idea of the permanent bed in back and one that my dog, Elsie (a 10 year old Coton de Tulear), can curl up with me on.  I’m still uncertain as to slide or non-slide, couch or dinette… but I do believe it will be 4x4.  I really do love to surf fish from the beach… or to take that unexplored inland road to see where it goes… and for that, I think the 4x4 gives me additional options.  But I’ve still much to consider and to learn.

In advance, I would like to thank you for your participation, here… and to thank you for the patience you will somehow need to find as I become comfortable enough to begin to ask questions.  My best to each of you…

Jim

Welcome to the Forum Jim.

Much like you, we had never considered an RV 'til 7 years ago. We always had sailboats so we thought we would be comfortable travelling in a Class B Sprinter. Too small! Then we discovered PC's and have never looked back--2350 Sprinter, 2551 and now the 2910.

No matter which model you choose, you could not find a better RV--from the fit and finish to the after purchase customer service--PhoenixUSA is the best company that we have ever done business with.

I certainly hope your research leads you to a new Phoenix Cruiser. I doubt that you will regret it!

Did you know that after ordering your new PC, the months waiting for delivery has 45 to 60 days in them. Hi. We are Ron and Toni Purdum. We went to the Hershey RV show to check out Leisure Travel Unity, Born Free, Coach House and PC. After three days, we decided on a 2351 PC and spent hours with Kyle and Earl and ordered it. We had owned a Born Free prior to our 35 ft Newmar DP but the Born Free didn't have a slide. Still didn't. Leisure Travel had a 9 -10 months wait and Coach House was Very expensive. Anyway, we wanted a smaller unit with a side that we can explore with.  We both worked in Alaska at Denali NP and still enjoy "end of the road" hiking and exploring, hence the smaller PC.  Earl said Dec or Jan (due to full body paint) but wow, thats a long way off. Anyway, we expect to spend next summer traveling and exploring the back roads and byways that we have missed so far. Hope to meet up with other PC travelers and attend PC gathering.

Hello Ron and Toni.  I can agree with you about the wait.  My wife and I have had a 3100 for about three years, and we have enjoyed it every time we have gone out.  We decided that we wanted a 2910D, and after months of thinking about it, taking a trip from Texas to Elkhart, and thinking some more...we ordered ours about two weeks ago.  I called Earl last week to see if it was finished!  He politely referred me to the calendar and I realized that only two weeks had past.  (WH) We, too, will just have to wait.  I know you will enjoy your PC AND this forum.  I don't "contribute" much, but I read it all the time and learn tons of things.  Let us know when you take delivery on yours.

I’m currently leaning towards the 2351.
… but I do believe it will be 4x4.
Jim
I would get a 2351 built on the E450 chassis.  Even more so if going 4x4.

Our 2350 works great for us.  But that extra foot would really make a difference for us if we ordered a 2351 with the rear corner double bed one foot longer instead of the pantry.  It would make entry and exit from the bed much easier and it would increase the outdoor storage compartment that much larger.  We would surely maintain our no-slide dinette and gain the pantry there because of it.  So in the end, we add a pantry on driver side, and a longer bed with bigger outdoor storage on the passenger side.  With the E450 chassis, the extra outdoor storage would be better supported.

If you are a true wilderness person who needs to carry more water, I would think the extra foot could also increase the size of your water tank and even still gain some extra outdoor storage.

Excellent suggestions, Ron.  And I really appreciate the "reasoning" you've provided to support those suggestions.

Question:  With the no slide/dinette option, is it still feasible to have the Euro chair or Captain's Chair... or does that just begin to get too crowded?

Thanks again!

Jim

Hi Jim,

I can only comment on our "mounted" captain seat.  That seat with the dinette works extremely well together.  When one of us wants to stretch out and relax (like when watching a movie), we adjust the seat close to the dinette, recline back, and use the front dinette bench seat as an ottoman.  We can also flip the passenger seat around and use that as an ottoman as well, but we never bother doing that one.  Because that 3rd seat is most forward in the rig, it's out of the way of traffic.  One person can fall asleep in that seat for a nap without being in the way of the other getting around inside the rig.

Sorry, but I don't have a picture how the seat can be adjusted close to the dinette.
I only have this picture using the front passenger seat as an ottoman.

Here is the captain seat in the typical position, close against the right side wall.  It is still very comfortable to sit in just as shown.  For me, as shown I can still use the dinette bench as an ottoman.  My wife with shorter legs needs the captain seat adjusted closer.

Thank you, Ron.  A picture sure does make it easier to judge...

Looks like the "Ron's" think alike. I'm 6'3" and we had the kitchen pantry removed, the side bed extended 6" and the kitchen counter extended 6". We kept the slide pantry. I also am having a higher dome installed in the shower. When I tried the one on display at Hershey, I had to bend over all the time. Earl called his parts people from the show and they said "no problem" so we will have a higher dome in the shower. Also, we elected to build our 2351 on the E450 chassis. A $1700 option. We will not have a dinette but the smaller recliner that makes into a bed and will use the portable table when necessary. We also had an awning installed on the slide window. When we elect to, our toad is a 2014 Jeep Trailhawk. We used to tow a Wrangler and go "jeepin" in Colorado, Utah, and Montana. Hope to continue with the PC.  Still have a month or so to wait. Grrrrr.

Ron and Toni, looks like you enjoy about the same type of camping that we enjoy....and in some of the same places.  We bought our 2350 with slide when it was eleven months old and bought it from a guy less than five miles down the road.   We had planned on ordering exactly the same unit, but I doubt if we would have tricked it out as well as the first owner choose to do and we enjoy his choices.

Now, if doing it all over and ordering new as we originally intended we would get the 2351 like you choose and we would pay the upcharge for the 450 chassis.  We also, like you, pull a Trailhawk.  I think you will be very pleased with your PC for the type of camping you enjoy.  That black tank on ours is much larger than the black tanks on similar models from other brands.  It allows us long term stays in National Forests for camping and hiking.   You will find the 450 a real benefit IMO.  And you will certainly be pleased with the quality of the build.  Think about adding twin sixes on the batteries and solar for your boondocking.   I did the solar add on myself and two hundred watts is ample for long term in the boonies if you get reasonable amounts of sun.

Of course, we may enjoy the same places and you don't boondock and stay in town.  Either way, those states are great choices.  Think about New Mexico as a possible addition to the list.  It is our First Choice .....Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado are not as crowded as the better known spots.

Jim

Here is another option you might want to consider for extra seating.

We have a 2012 2551  with slide and ordered the swivel seat option for both the driver and passenger seats.  It provides additional seating without taking up any floor space and provides a sense of openness to the floor plan.  In addition, you can have a small side table added.  We found both the extra storage and seating to be very useful.
