I have owned a variety of rvs ranging from 21' to 41' and have finally settled on our 3100 PC which fits our needs well. We are not full timers but when we travel there are 2 adults , 2 dogs and a cat. We are very happy with it. You are considering getting a smaller toad, don't forget to factor in the storage capacity of the toad, you may solve some of your outside storage problems.

Welcome to the forum!  At some point down the road we plan to do the full-timing thing, so are always tuned into these discussions.  Holly and John have been an excellent resource!

One thing to remember about the 3100....that back end sticks way out there and you'll need to be extra cognizant of that when pulling into and out of some places like gas stations, driveways, etc.

I'm sure I've posted this before but it fits here so I'll stick it in again. The reason we went with the 2552 instead of the 2910D was twofold: length and weight (we also really liked the rear bath but it wasn't as important as the first two).

Weight - The extra length and extra slide was estimated to add about 1,000 lbs - thereby reducing my potential payload by 1,000 lbs (approximately 1/3 by my estimate). I'm not sure how the weight of the 3100 compares to the 2552. I believe it has a longer slide with the added weight of the dinette. I know weight changes with the options you choose for the build but I was going for ballpark numbers. Since we were full time and planned long chunks of time with a third person on board (granddaughter), we opted for the smaller rig and more carrying ability. I still stare at the 2910D floor plans on occasion though. Love the big window and double euro chairs.

Length - I wanted to stay under 30' as that is the limit listed for many National Park campgrounds. The 3100 and 2910 are not a whole lot longer than the 2552 and will probably fit in most of the campgrounds even though they are over 30' long. We've only hit a few spots where we would have problems with a longer rig. Cramming the toad on the site is sometimes a bit of an issue but we've always managed.

Again, this is all a personal choice. Figure out what is absolutely important to you and go from there.

We have a 2910 with one slide (sofa). We wanted twin beds as well as the larger windows and those wonderful Euro chairs. Phoenix accommodated us by building the 2910 with one slide and the twin beds. We did not need the dinette and did not want the slide with the bed. PC will build what the customer wants if at all possible. They just delivered another 2910 with one slide a couple of weeks ago.

We have never had a problem fitting into a site at any campground--state, national or private. Our length is 31' 5".

Thanks to all for input.

I do keep hearing that they will build whatever I want (within reason).  I don't feel real creative so far - though Earl may have a different opinion based on my "what about" questions so far.

Holly - sounds like you folks are really organized on this - as I believe one would need to be to full time especially in a B+.  I like your list idea.  Part of my exercise to measure cabinets and the inside of the refrigerator, etc.  was I thought I could mark off the equivalent areas in my house to try to get a good feel for just what I could fit in.  I had been trying to think about how to decide what I can and can not live without.  The lists are a very good idea.  Thanks - and I will be checking out your Spirit of the Woods site.

I have seen Gradygal's Phoenix and agree that the big windows and two euro chairs are awesome. I know they (and I believe others) were hoping to get the back end of the 2552 (with the rear bath, full wardrobe and twin beds) combined with the front of the 2910D with the double euro chairs and big windows. That would be pretty close to perfect for us also now that we aren't working from the rig but it can't be built that way. Their custom floor plan is really nice and works well for their three or four month jaunts. I don't know if it would have enough cabinets for us full time with the grandchild on board. We carry all season wear so have a lot more than those that know pretty much what weather they'll hit for their trip. That doesn't stop me from thinking about the different configurations though. I read something once that might help: "the decision you make is the best one you could make with the information you had at the time". So, get as much information as you can and make your best decision. If you are like me you'll continue to second guess yourself but I keep coming back to the undeniable fact that we love our Phoenix and she works for us.... ahhh, but those nice big windows...

Hi! I'm Kate, and I'm looking at purchasing a smaller RV in about a year! The back-kitchen floorplan Cruisers caught my eye. I grew up RVing as an only child with my parents (Dolphin Class C in the late '80s and in the early-mid '90s a huge class A), though haven't owned one of my own. I'm interested in the 2100 and 2400 (and have a lot of questions, so stay tuned for the spammiest question post in the world.)

I knit, and am the same username on Ravelry, if anyone's on there.

There is a lot of information, here.  Like, you, I'm planning for the perfect PC.  I've found that making a list of treasures (ideas) that I've found within the many threads and posts was the only way I could keep up with it all.  And I've still only scratched the surface.  I suspect you'll be pleased with how many will take time to respond (though I'm guess that many have begun to pursue their own spring/summer travels).  Enjoy the process... and my best to you!

Thanks for the kind welcome, Jim! I've got a massively long questions thread just below this that I suspect might be a bit too long, but I tried to break it up as much as possible for readability.

My problem is I'm too much of a magpie with ideas at the start. "Do I want this or this or... ooh, that?" At least I know I don't need a 3100, so I guess it could be worse. But I've been playing with the cost estimator on the 2100 and 2400 and have got it as low as $87,000 or so and as high as $125,000 (nearly as much as my house!). Hence why I'm taking the time to plan.

You asked so here we go.. We are in the midst of a real downsizing. We have traded in our Allegro Bus Class A, which was great and in nice shape for a 2910T which we are waiting for. We were lucky to have a visit with friends in Dec who bought a PC 3100 also a move from a very nice Class A. And they were very pleased with the outcome.  Like us one dog and one couple. The difficult part will be the drive to PC and dealing with hotels again. It will be Tampa to Elkhart so a long adventure out in the world with no RV. We are looking forward to the change. Mr does not drive the RV I do not expect that to change but I will give up some chores to his talent and experience.  Love the info we have seen on here. Regards to all

Welcome to the forum, John.  I don't have a diesel but I did investigate them back when I was trying to decide what to buy.  Two years later I can say I'm really happy with my 2351 on the Ford E350.  By not spending so much money on the diesel initially, I could afford to get other options that I would not have been able to afford otherwise (solar, full body paint, etc.).  Also, being not at all mechanically inclined, I felt a Ford would be easier to find servicing for when needed.  I know the diesels can last a lot longer, but I figure that the $15,000 or so I saved at the beginning can go into a rebuilt gas engine someday if me and my PC ever make it that far!

Hello cruisers.  Taking a minute to introduce myself.  Wife and I ran onto a 2007 2551 a few years back.  We weren't really in the market for an rv.  It came in on trade.  It is a diesel,  so we couldn't pass it up.  Salesman did a masterful job hiding water damage.  By the time we found it, we had to rebuild passenger side from door to van body, plus a big chunk of floor.  A 7k  dollar repair was tough to swallow, but it's done and we couldn't be more happy.  We share the beast with 2 border collies and a German shepherd.  We travel by removing mattress from passenger side bed and lash down 2 kennels.  Third dog is in kennel right behind us humans.  I have tons of questions,  so you be hearing more from me.  Tim

Welcome, Jim...John...Henry...Kate!   It amazes me sometimes how many different ways we all use our PC's.    I'm a dog guy, but can't imagine what it takes to travel with two border collies, plus a German shepherd (which are amazing and I've had both). Two fat little Pomeranians are tough enough these days. 😀  Diesel vs gas, shorter vs longer, all very interesting.  In the end, I haven't read many (actually, any) posts saying they made a grave error moving to or buying their first PC.
