Well like I said, we've had 2 Sprinters now, and both of them have had front end issues. Alignment, eating tires etc. The 2013 van's front end was so far out of alignment that it chewed up the front tires in 6k miles. They had to be replaced, under warranty thank goodness, but in order to get this issue fixed with the front end, we had to make several 40+ mile trips to 2 different dealers who ended up not being able to do an alignment at all. Guess who ended up getting to do the alignment, paid for by Mercedes I might add. It was a FORD dealer down the street from a Freightliner dealer, (Freightliner dealers also do Sprinter warranty work).
Sprinter dealers are so few and far between, maintenance is expensive, out of warranty repairs are VERY, VERY expensive, and they seem delicate to me. That's hard to explain but that's the way I feel about them. They take a special, must use, fully synthetic European spec motor oil that you can't find just anywhere. Also because of the new diesel emissions equipment, they can't be idled any more than absolutely necessary or all kinds of check engine lights happen requiring a dealer visit.
Granted, they do drive and ride wonderful in RV form, and get great fuel mileage for the size of some of them, usually 15-17 mpg, but then again the diesel fuel is around here is always 50-70 cents higher per gallon.
Just tired of dealing with the hassles....
