Hello and thank you to everyone on the forum for so much useful information. I’ve been reading for a few weeks now in preparation to pickup my new 2015 2100 at the factory in a few weeks. I am both downsizing from my 34’ Diesel Pusher and upsizing from my 19’ E-350 conversion van, which have served as my overnight and day travel vehicles for the past 13 years and nearly 300,000 total miles. For most of those years my mother was my co-pilot, navigator and mechanic, but after she passed in 2009, I found myself using the Class A less, the E-350 van more, and staying closer to home as the vehicles both aged.
I’ve spent the past year trying to decide on one RV that could cover all my needs. I definitely wanted something small and nimble that I would be comfortable going anywhere in by myself, like my wonderful E-350 van, but I needed a bit more room than the van provided. Also, I wanted to be able to sleep two in a pinch for the rare occasion when my husband could get away from work and go with me. The trickiest part for me was finding something with the majority of the space in the living area, minimal space devoted to kitchen/bath, and the ability to customize the floor plan to accommodate my two dog crates which end-to-end need 86” of straight open space along one wall.
Of the three possibilities I considered, the PC 2100 had the most desirable floor plan and the best price. The customizations I made in order to create my dream PC started with the E-450 chassis with the 158” wheelbase (not cut to 138”) which gave me an additional 20” in the living area. By reducing the size of the wardrobe on the driver’s side a bit, we were able to create the 86” of open floor space that I need. The passenger side will have a twin bed with bolsters to double as a couch. When I need the second bed, a mattress goes on top of the dog crates. That probably doesn’t sound too comfortable, but considering I’ve been doing most of my recent camping in a van with a 60x24 foam pad on top of rubbermaid boxes, everything about this PC will be a luxury.
I’m very excited about picking up my new PC soon, although not looking forward to gutting out the 20 hour drive each way. I know it will make me appreciate home sweet home when I successfully pull it into my driveway.
