Thank you! I have a brother up in Oregon whom I am going to go see in a month and he has been an RV person for about 3 decades now and I have a list of the things I am going to have him address. He has owned a Camper, a B, an A, and now uses either his 5th wheel or his camper. If it can be done to an RV, he has done it. I just wish he wasn't over a thousand miles away, wait, maybe I do! Gives me a great excuse for a nice long trip!

Greetings!

In another 8-10 weeks my wife (Joni) and I will be the proud owners of our very first RV; a 2014 PC 2552!

We've spent the last 6 months or so researching different makes and models using a variety of resources and finally settled on a PC, in large part to the great folks on this forum....so thank you! We haven't been to the factory, but did drive down to the L.A. area to look at a used 2552 in person. The quality was exactly what we expected, after reading so many comments (even from non-PC owners) about how well designed and manufactured they are.

The unit we specified is Sunlit interior and exterior with some 'popular' options:
Cherry cabinets and wood floors, Ultra leather power sofa, Full body paint, Insulated glass, Drivers power seat, Awning, Premium convenience package (minus standard Penguin a/c), 19" bedroom TV, Surround sound/DVD, Compass/Temp mirror, Backup Monitor, Satellite dish, 2nd Fan, HWH leveling jacks.

A few custom options:
50 amp electrical service (overkill, probably?)
Surge Guard hard-wired (w/remote power LCD monitor)
Coleman Mach 8 15,500btu a/c (again, overkill?)
Satellite radio (we love music)
Bathroom sink cover

We will probably spend the first few months getting used to driving and setting up the rig locally in the Napa/Sonoma area parks, Lake Tahoe and Mt. Shasta area, eventually branching out to San Diego, Arizona and Washington before hopefully making our way further east into the rest of the country next year. We have two cute and well behaved Pomeranians (Cooper and Lina) who will be traveling with us, so this is going to be quite a new adventure for us.

We are both "foodies" and love all kinds of music and wine. I enjoy cooking, playing guitar, fishing and trail riding. Joni is the resident gardener (wondering if we can plant an herb garden on the PC roof :-) and loves to paint, knit, explore and is learning to play the Ukulele. We are both pretty handy and will probably get into making some of our own alterations as some of you have done.

I'm sure we will be asking lots of very basic questions here, probably fairly humorous since we've never driven an RV for any meaningful length of time or hooked up power/water and such. We will also try to put up some useful info for others to use as we go along.

Mike,
50 amp is not over kill. That said you will be glade to have the 50 amps on a very hot day and you can run the AC, Ele. Water Heater, and the Microwave all at the same time. I have 50 amp in my 3100 and love it. I didn't get the internal surge guard, mine is addon at post. I was going to get the 2nd fan until I found out it was only going to ba about $200 different for the extra AC in the bed room, We love it. The bed room is darker and we can run the fan only with the windows open or just the AC. Don't know if your unit is hard wired or uses the adapter on the outside, mine has the adapter and I made up extra cords for 30 an 20 amps so I don't have to use the dog bone adapter. I like the extra you addedto your and we have most of them but not all. Love the 3100 and I'm sure you will love yours also. Happy traveing. Hope you see you down the road.

In our opinion, you have done it right!!! We went from the 2350 to the 2551. Should have started with the 2551 (the 2552 wasn't available at the time). We now have a 2910.

We have been travelling for 10 days now--We live on the west coast of Florida and I can honestly say that I have never been so hot in my life as in the last 10 days! It is now 104 in Vicksburg MS and the NOISY air conditioner is working it guts out. If that Coleman air conditioner is as quiet as reported, we should have opted for that. Hindsite is 20/20.

We are off to Dallas for 2 days and it is supposed to be just as hot!!! Can't wait to get to the mountains of Colorado-----

Welcome Mike & Joni to the PC family.

We look forward to hearing of any factory deviations, and post-delivery modifications. I am especially curious about the supposedly quiet Coleman a/c unit.....how quiet it will be when you run it the first time. Hopefully it's better than the advertised "Onan Quiet" generator. We are left asking....Quiet as compared to what? My El-Cheep-O lawn tractor is just as quiet.

While your rig is being built, you'll have to quickly spend some time on the forum here to gather ideas on what you might like the factory to do differently for you. One such factory deviation you might contemplate is save the money on the temperature mirror and have the factory mount your backup camera there like I did this year on our 2007. No more hitting my head on the monitor when getting in and out, and the monitor is right where I can see it best. The mirror was good only for watching my wife tease me. Since I did this mod, I am considering placing a mirror on the sun visor so the fun can continue.

Welcome! If you get two A/Cs with the 50 amp then the units quietness is not as important because you can always run the A/C in the opposite part of the RV that you're occupying. I was very concerned about the noise with just one unit because we used to have a Lance slide-in on a Ford 350 and the 13.5 A/C was way to loud. We swore we would not have another RV without ducted air. Of course when you want a PC you have to give a little; my compromise was to have the 15K Mach 8 Coleman HP with two motors. On high setting both motors operate and it's somewhat loud, but when you switch to low it's quieter than some ducted units I've heard.

I agree that the 50 amp without two A/Cs would not be overkill, but I just wanted the lighter weight 30 amp power cord (smaller storage area). I definitely agree with Ron to have the monitor moved to the mirror location-my DW hits it a lot.
Good Luck with whatever you decide-the PC is a good choice!

One caveat: my hearing is not what it used to be-could account for the quiet A/C.

Welcome home Mike and Joni!

You will ask, find and receive a wealth of information from all your cousins on the PC website. It has taken me a long time to fully utilize this forum as I got way too busy to explore it and understand what you can do here. Luckily, life is slowing down for us and we have the time to plan on when we can go play a lot more in our Cruiser!

You have chosen one of the best RV manufacturers I have ever known. I have had many RV's and I have had none offer the service and stand behind their product as well as PC. NONE! My wife and I have spent the last year going to RV shows and dealers trying to find something we like better than our PC and we continue to go back to the one we have. If and when we move to a bigger one it will most likely be another PC.

I know a lot of people on here have upgraded and personally customized their PC but I am not one of those. Tips and tricks is the forum for that. I pretty much stay to the really easy stuff that is within my capabilities! LOL!

Enjoy your new PC and a suggestion if I may. Take your cruiser to the nearest alignment shop when you get it loaded as there is no way for any RV dealer to align a vehicle that has never been loaded for travel. That load is up to you. Check it at a scale so you know what it weighs empty and loaded. Also maybe hang out close to the factory for while, if you have the time, so they can correct anything that got overlooked. Those guys there in the factory are super good and I would doubt you have any issues but it is always better to be safe then sorry.

Glad to hear that we probably made some good decisions. We had considered the trade-off with having a heavy 50 amp cable vs. the ability to operate appliances without too much worry. Gotta get used to trade-offs, I guess. :-) We do spend time in some pretty hot locations on occasion (Florida, Louisiana, Bakersfield, Scottsdale) and by the sounds of things a 15k unit should be reasonable. Decibel level on the Coleman....we'll have to see.

Putting the backup camera where the mirror would be sounds like a smart idea. Might just do that. Though I'll probably wind up hitting my head on -something- anyway (GPS, ScanGauge, TPMS)

We had read quite a bit about weighing the MH unloaded and loaded, as well as checking alignment right away, and that's definitely on one of our many lists. We've also learned that rv'ers use lots of lists, at least initially!

My ScanGuauge-II sits on top of the backup camera as seen here. In the picture, you can see the scars from where the backup camera was previously mounted, in between the visors. That was a consistent head-hitting location for me. I couldn't remember it was there until the moment of impact. It got to the point that I started using 4 letter words like "Dang". The camera is better on the windshield anyway. I turn it on and leave it on when driving. It assures there isn't someone hiding behind me, following too close behind.

Wow, nice Ron! Kinda getting a bit off topic so I won't ask how you managed to run the ScanGauge cable down to the OBDII connector (which I'm guessing is somewhere under the dash or steering wheel?). Kinda hoping I feel more like a pilot than a driver, with all this electronic stuff!

In 2013 when we ordered our second PC, the backup monitor was part of the Mirror. I had them install the older style 4" monitor where Ron's use to be. I don't seem to hit it the way a lot of people do.

We pick up our new PC next week, so sorry I don't have a better picture but we opted for the back up camera, GPS iPod, USB, sat radio and who knows what else option. I'm pretty sure it is the infotainment center that winnebago uses. It was a little expensive option, but I like having it all in one.
