Ron,
Try this website to help you find the location of your local stations.Click on the station to get the compass direction. http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/maps/

A big "Help" for you.  This great info!
I remember very few of the things that I’ve spent money to buy, but I remember all of the places that I’ve spent money to see.

Ron,

Does your PC have the antenna amplifier wall plate in the cabinet next to the TV, and are you turning it on?  On mine it has to be on for antenna and off for cable.

Bob, Yes I have the booster where you describe.  You ask a very good question about on/off.  Next time I get our PC out from the valley here at home, maybe drive it to work, I will test the antenna....making sure the red light is on, and the antenna pointed towards the Sears/Willis tower.

Hi everybody,

I'm thinking about getting a new rig and am researching what might be the best fit for me. I'm wanting to follow the recommendations in ron dittmer's famous (or infamous) :-D tutorial on fiberglass cap, etc.  I'm trying to get something that would be easier to maintain, drive and use as I am in my early 60's now and suspect that these things will only get harder as time goes on plus I travel with a friend, 2 parrots and 4 cats  pyho which makes floorplan choice important......litterbox and cage placement.

Sooo, I'm going to have a lot of questions and will need some measurements that I hope some of you will be willing to answer, and I think you will, because you seem like such a nice, friendly bunch here.  I've followed gradygal through their 3 Rvs and Barry-Sue through their changes and ron.dittmer through his suspension saga.  I've read every (and I mean every) single thread in this forum.  Does that mean that I can get a gold star by my name? :lol

Thanks,

Marcia

Welcome Marcia,

Wow, you've done a whole lot of reading.  Would you settle for....  (balloons).  I am sure people here will be happy to share dimensions.  Ask your questions here.

Here are my thoughts.
With a human companion, four cats and two parrots in a cage, consider a 2552 or 3100.  If you decide to buy a brand new PC, the factory may be able to accomodate a special place for your bird cage between the entry door and passenger seat, and kitty potties under the cage.  You might also consider having the front aerodynamic cap finished "open" as a loft for the kitties to hang out.  You could later create within the loft, a multi-level kitty loft if your kitties need more personal space.  I've heard the factory can make that area a single bunk for a large child.  They don't cut the roof of the van, making it quite a nice open space area.  Of coarse the TV goes elsewhere and you loose those two side cabinets.  You also would need to watch your head getting in and out from the front seats as is common with other motor homes.

I do wonder if the TV could still go there, just let the kitties claim the space behind it.
I also wonder if a slideout would help or hurt with kitty access to the loft.  Someone with those PC models would have to provide input on that.

Blessings,
Ron Dittmer

We are fairly new owners of a 2552 with only one cat. We have the litter box in the bathroom set in front of the shower door and are already on our second box due to a good size cat trying to hit a too-small target. One miss and we got a bigger box. We saw a nice "corner" box with high sides that would have fit beautifully but it was gone before we got back for it. My measurements say we may be able to get away with an 15x15" triangular box and MAYBE 18x18... if we can find one again. We slide the existing box out of the way when we shower and the box of clean litter fits nicely between the toilet and the wardrobe. I think it will fit in the bottom of the linen closet also but my better half likes it to be more accessible. I keep a little camping whisk broom with dustpan between the sink and shower for quick cleanups of escaped litter.

I also read a post either on this forum or another where they put the litter box in the foot well of the passenger seat. That area is carpeted in our rig so I'm leery of that but we may be buying those heavy rubber floor mats so the box may be moving during longer stays. When I pivot the seat, the area is pretty well hidden.

As for the TV, it would be nice and warm behind it but it would be very tight for kitties. I agree with Ron that a critter space behind the passenger seat might be just the thing. You would probably have to forego the Euro-chair but I'm sure it would be do-able. Another possible kitty spot is under the driver side twin bed. We copied someone else's upgrade and had Phoenix install cabinet doors for easy access (standard access is by lifting the bed board - easy enough but I'm lazy). If you had Phoenix cut the openings then left them without doors (or got doors to install later if desired) then your kitties would have a very nice hiding spot. You lose storage though.  The same idea might work for under the dinette seat (big, beautiful drawer that we don't have in the 2552).

I also agree with Judi - I'm sure you'll love your PC as much as we love ours. The hardest part of having one is waiting until you get to go play in it again. Good luck on your decision. By the way, I see a gold star by your name.

I figured having the litter box under a bed would be too close for comfort.

I thought the kitty liter would be best as far from the sleeping quarters as possible.  Having a Fantastic fan most forward or even directly above that Euro-chair area turned bird cage & litter might be effective.  With the right windows open, the fan could draw odors away from the living quarters and offer the top/front kitty loft some good fresh cool air ventilation.

Just throwing ideas out there.

Sorry, Ron, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean to put the litter box under the bed. I meant to use it for kitty bed/hidey spot. Our cat's hidey spot is on the twin bed under the shirt closet. We put clear command hooks on the shirt closets since we like to hang our jammies near the bed during the day. The jammies hang almost to the bed which creates a nice "cave" under that cabinet. Once she chose her spot, we threw her blanket back there to mark the territory. She prefers Johns's side (yesssssssssss!) so HE gets yelled at during the night if his feet stray into her space. Marcia has four cats so she may need a bigger hidey spot. Under the bed might do it.

We also asked Phoenix to skip the fan in the bedroom and put that second fantastic fan in the bath. That will help draw the litter smell straight up and away. However, with the box right there it gets scooped quickly so that should help with the odor too. Besides, we two-legged critters can be stinky too so all that stink is in the same zone and the box is out of view of guests.

Having a Fantastic Fan in a rear bathroom is a great idea.  It will move much more air than the wimpy one typically installed.  Even with all windows closed up for security, air can be drawn in from the front dash area and move toward the rear.  Odors never get a chance to penetrate forward into the rest of the house.

And that is one less big hole in your roof.  One fan doing the job of two.  I like it.   2o2

The credit goes to Tom Hanlon. He suggested it, we requested it, and Phoenix accommodated us, as usual. An additional benefit is a nice, dark bedroom. You close the door to the bathroom, close the door curtain thing to the forward area, pull down the awesome window blinds and you have instant night even in the middle of the day. We haven't tried it with the fan cranked high but it works fine with the fan on low since there is space above the door for the air to pull through.

I think if you put that fan on high and closed the bathroom door, it might just levitate anyone sitting on the head.

I am the proud new owner of a 2007 2551 PC!  I just drove it back from San Diego to Glendale, AZ yesterday.  Today I got it titled and registered with new AZ plates.  I picked it up on Saturday with my son and grandson so I had someone to drive my car back.  I got a great deal on it and they are so hard to find out here used.  It only has 13,500 miles on it and we camped in it on Saturday night and got familiar with some of the workings and I have a list of things that need to be fixed or replaced but I love it!  I already have searched through the forum and found answers to some of my questions but I have more!  I put brand new tires on it as soon as I got it but I need valve extenders for the rear.  The original Michelin's were almost 7 years old and although the tread looked like new, the cracks everywhere were not good for driving in 120 degree temps across the desert yesterday.  I'm looking forward to a long and happy relationship with my PC and this group!
