General Discussion / Re: Alternative Fridge?
« Last post by Joseph on October 19, 2025, 12:26:58 pm »
Update on fridge conversion to 12 volt.  We recently took a short 4 day trip. At 5 pm the day before departure I turned the fridge on.  The following morning when loading the fridge was at 34 degrees and the freezer was at 4. Over the course of the 4 days the fridge maintained between 33.5 and 34.9 degrees. I never had to make any adjustments.  It’s as sim Poole as just turning on your fridge. Nothing to adjust.  The one con is while connected to shore power.  In the 2552 the charging unit is directly below the bed. The 12 volt systems causes the charger to kick on frequently. It’s an additional fan noise along side the inverters fans. This may or may not bother you.  Personally I wish I could throw a switch to turn the charger off at night.

Overall I wish I’d known of this sooner. I like it soooooo much better than the three way system.

One change I’ll make is If I find a way to shut the charger off at night it will be on my to do list.

I have informed Phoenix when this forum goes down for lengthy periods.  The owner of Phoenix, Tina Cooper, told me that GoDaddy hosts the Phoenix forum, and that Phoenix has no influence.  It sounds like the forum will be down frequently because GoDaddy does not expand what is needed to meet the ever increasing demand of its customers.

If you need a host for personal or business use, DON'T consider GoDaddy.

General Discussion / Re: Batteries brands vs cost vs efficiency

My rig came with the slider and two 12 volts.  I’ve been able to upgrade my sliders to 500 lb and I lower it enough to allow 11” of clearance getting under the outer door.  Agm allows the most room     and power wise seems like the best choice over all.   The cost of the AGM did take me back a bit.

Ron.. Thank you, I’ll look them up. How long did you have them or are you still using them?

Looks like there’s not much savings over Trojan.  $426, less cycles and one year warranty.
Trojan looks like the best deal.  I sold my PC about 4 years ago.  Been looking for another for a while.

AGM is the best choice in my opinion.  You are also right in that Lithium upgrades are too costly for benefit you would get.

>Trojan T105-AES 6V AGM 207 amp hr has a DOD 0 % rating of 1200 cycles . $500-545.00. Each..  Three year warranty.
Those batteries only list for $200 ea and I saw this offer: https://advantagebatteries.com/shop/trojan-t105-6v-battery/ for $166 (All in FL) but I bet someone could meet their price.
My T105's are over 7 years old and still going strong.
I monitor the state of charge and try never to go down less than 50% charged.
I don't mind adding water about every 45 days.
That works for PC owners who had 6V batteries when the rig was new because the battery compartment accommodates taller 6V batteries.  But for people like us who originally had 12V batteries in a lower profile compartment, changing to taller 6V batteries required me to delete the tray to gain the height which makes sealed AGMs the only practical option because you can't inspect fluid levels with the tray deleted.  CLICK HERE to see pictures of my 12V to 6V AGM conversion.

Keel….    I saw that advantage wants $312 for the Trojan agm but that’s pickup only and they won’t ship. Locals here say then go buy it there being it’s 2500 miles away.  The Trojan agm can safely be taken well below 50% repeatedly with no issue. That aside, If I don’t need it I can save a lot. Now having the 12 volt fridge I’m in that I don’t know what I don’t know area. I’ve read that the AGM can accept higher/ faster recharge rates ,(thinking gen run time while dry camping) and are better at power delivery as well, (running the coffee maker on occasion). I’m really out of my wheelhouse here so I’m looking for as much guidance as I can obtain.
