Hello from John and Carol in the Sierra foothills. We are retired and have been RVing for 10 years. We will take possession of a 2014 PC 2552 in Feburary. Our favorite places to camp are the coast and the forest so we are having the factory install a solar panel so we can dry camp for extended periods without using the generator. Sometime in the future are planning to take the PC to Alaska.
Welcome John and Carol to the PC forum, and soon to the family.  When you have questions about your rig (and you will), you know where to ask.  Your fellow forum members are here to serve up the answers the best we can.  :)

Welcome to Phoenix USA RV's Discussion Board. We think you'll find this is a nice place to hang out. Why don't you start off with a little introduction and tell us a bit about yourself?

I go by Jim, My 8YO female apple head Chihuahua goes my "Winnie", my 10YO Toy Poodle mix goes by "Puppy". We live Full time in my Model 2100 SO 2002 Phoenix Cruiser.

Welcome Jim, Winnie, and Puppy!
... and pardon the dumb question, but what exactly is an "apple head chihuahua?"  Some kind of fancy breed or just a fancy name for a special girl?   :-D

Hi, I'm Joseph and my better half and best friend is Maria. We live in Indio Ca (Palm Springs). I will be retiring next year and the search has been on to find a motor home to fit our needs. I've traveled most of the world for my work and in retirement want to spend some time exploring the country we Love.  We have done a lot of travel in the US on two wheels, now it's time for a few more.

In our search I started out looking for an older Dynamax or Born free. One day I spotted a PC on the road that caught my eye. After a little searching on multiple forums PC became a front runner. By the way, a few of you here should be getting rewards points from PC as you've really helped narrow my search.  Ron D. should have his picture on the wall at the factory   :-D.

This past week we placed a deposit on a 2011 PC2551 with 19,000 miles at a dealer in Montana. If it is everything they showed and briefed me on (I'm betting it is) I will be bringing it home next weekend.

Welcome!  We hope you like yours as much as we like ours!  Joni and I (and our two little dogs) put 9500 miles on our 2552 last year and found it very comfortable, versatile and easy to manage.

Interesting that you are from Palm Springs (with so many RV's and motorhomes around) and settled on a relatively little-known PC.  Good luck and don't hesitate to post your questions, ideas, modifications, etc.!!

Thank you Mike. Yes there are thousands of motorhomes out here, at least during snow bird season.  Most are huge, many range from $400,000 and up.  We simply don't want a monster to travel in. Matter of fact I found some killer deals on used diesel pushers that were truly elegant but again, huge.

Welcome Joseph and Maria,
We're almost neighbors to you as we live about one-half year in Palm Desert Greens.  We recently "right-sized" to our 2552 from a 37' diesel pusher and have no regrets about that decision.  We love our PC.

Bruce and Sharon, thank you. Palm Desert is a beautiful area.  We live off of Jefferson and miles (Indian Springs Country club).
I'm happy to hear you have no regrets downsizing. Some of my friends are going the other route 30 foot to 40 and are not full timers just weekends here and there and a vacation period for 2 people. So hearing from someone who went the other route makes me feel better about not going large. This sounds like a impossibility but we're attempting to do it once and get it right the first time. All too many tell me it can't be done.  I guess only time will tell.

Hello, just wanted to introduce myself.  I have spent sometime looking through the forum, and there is lots of good info here.

I am not a current owner but am in the process of searching for a small PC (2100 or 2350), hoping to find a newer, lightly used rig.  I may order one or think about one of the factory inventory units if I don't find a suitable used PC soon.  So far, the few possibles I have found are quite a ways from me so checking them out is the biggest hurdle.

My only RV experience was owning one of the Tiger 4WD truck based RVs (manufactured in SC) a couple of years ago.  It was nice for my intended use - exploring national forests and parks in the western US but a bit lacking in space and comfort for extended use.  I still want something with a short wheelbase to make it easier to get around, and it is just me and my old black lab.

I plan to full-time for at least a few months as I am currently homeless by choice (recently sold my lake house in Alabama).  I have been renting short term vacation properties while I search for the right RV.

Welcome! You found the place to get lots of good information and assistance. We have the 2100 (2013) with slide and find it works well for us. We (husband and wife) lived in it for about 6 weeks when our house sold way quicker than anticipated and survived it very well. We shopped, researched, and rented for 3 years. Was looking for used, but the used PC2100s are few and far between. Then a new one came on the market with a killer deal because of a cancelled custom order and we jumped on it. No regrets. We don't tow because we went small to have the ability to drive easily in cities and park like a car. We do rent cars along the way. Only once was that not an option when we wanted one--Big Bend National Park.

Hi Greg/Lakedog,

I think the 2100 is a very efficient rig.  I personally would do it up differently to utilize the interior better.   I also feel the smaller V8 E350 engine offers enough power for it's size and weight.  I think the 2100 is ideal for a single person, but will work with two as long as you are real careful in what you bring.  I see pictures of 2100s with hitch mounted storage compartments which I feel defeats the purpose.  At that point, I would buy a 2350 and have plenty of indoor & outdoor storage and also a full time double bed and bigger capacities.  A 2350 is more suited for full timing for a multitude of reasons.  But if you travel lightly, the 2100 will be quite the rig for best mobility.

Welcome Greg.  I agree with Ron, that the 2100 is the smallest but there are advantages to the 2350 at 23' 11", which is still very compact and with a 158" wheelbase, very agile.  The layout that suits your needs best is the first to consider, imo.  I think the 2350 layout is easier for two people, but it depends on how you like to use the living space. If it's the 2100 layout that attracts you over the 2350, then look at the 2400 which is only 3" longer, built on the 164" wheelbase.  I also couldn't find a used unit that would suit my needs so bought new.  This gave me the opportunity to customize a bit.  I wanted the layout type of the 2100/2400 and the shortest unit possible, but I didn't want the 158" chassis cut to 138", and I didn't want to go to the 164" chassis, but would have if that was the only option. Phoenix built my 2100 on the 158" chassis uncut, so my finished unit is 22' 10".  I also built on the E450, but I believe the E350 would have served fine.  I appreciate the extra weight capacity of the E450, and to me it was worth it.

Thanks for the welcome.  I have found a 2013 2100 with slide for sale now which seems like a decent price (around $50k) if in as good of shape as appearing in the photos.  It only has 11,000 miles but is located several hours away so haven't seen in person yet.  My only real concern with the 2100 slide is whether the sleeping situation would work for me as I am 6'2".  Is your sofa bed around that length when extended?
