My wife and I currently own a 37 foot Tiffin Class A motorhome. It has been great, but the time has come for us to downsize. I have been looking at PCs on the website, but would like to see one in person. I live in Texas near Dallas and would love to see a 2552 ( or any model ) to see if the quality in workmanship is as good as the pictures. I don't mind driving to Indiana, but if there is anyone out there who lives close by that would let us look at your PC, I would love to see it!!

Thanks,
James Dixon

Hello James.  We just bought a 3100 at the Louisville Rally and drove it to our home in Tyler.  I know that is 90 miles away, but if you are out and about, we would be happy to show ours to you.  We have family in Arlington, and if we take it over there for a night or two, we can make arrangements to meet you at Treetops RV there.

We sold our Newmar Ventana 39' DP a few months ago and did a lot of looking before choosing this one.  Like you, we didn't want to buy one sight unseen.  The Rally gave us the opportunity to make up our mind.

Let me know if we can get together.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Dave, my wife is Peg and we just came  back from Albuquerque to look at a 2551.  We're interested in a 2350 but decided to look at the 2551 to evaluate the quality of build.  I'm happy to say we were pleased with what we saw.  We've gone back and forth, looking at many As, Bs, and Cs.  We've gone from thinking 24 feet to 35 feet back to 24.  The floor plan of the 2350 ticks all of our boxes, but we have questions which I hope other PC owners can answer.

The main question is gas or diesel?  I know there are many variables, and that it depends partly on how many miles we plan on driving.  What I'd like to get a handle on is the TCO (total cost of ownership).  The MB is $12k more upfront, but what is the depreciation like compared to the Ford?  I've heard that the MB is very expensive to have worked on, does anyone have any figures on routine maintenance?  I've also heard it can be difficult to get the MB worked on, whereas there is a Ford dealer on almost every corner.

Fuel mileage is better with the diesel, but whether it is better enough given all the above is what I'm trying to work out.  I'm told the Ford get ~10 mpg while the diesel can get ~18 mpg and up.  I love the MB cab and the one I have driven (Leisure Travel Serenity) handled well.  The Ford has a beefier chassis, however, and a greater GVWR.  We do plan to get a version with a slide, which decreases our carrying capacity on the MB, less so on the Ford.  What are owners' experiences with the MB?  Do you find yourself limited by the GVWR, especially if you have a slide?  How does the higher profile MB handle high winds and truck wakes?

How many 2350 owners tow a vehicle?  Do you find you need one, or is the unit small enough that you don't need a second vehicle.
We go back and forth on that, too.  We're planning on using this for extended vacations of 3 - 4 weeks.  Part of the time is just sitting by the beach or a lake, the rest of the time will be for exploring; museums, art galleries, farmers' markets, etc.  I think a towed car, something like a Honda Fit, gives us that much more flexibility.  Thoughts?

Finally, any thoughts on quality, durability and reliability.  Our Gold Standard, from what we've seen, is something like Coach House or Leisure Travel.  Coach House is too expensive for us and Leisure Travel, our first choice, does not have the floor plan we want.  As I said, PC ticks all our boxes.

Finally, if you've read this far, thanks.  On an unrelated subject, is there any way to turn off the annoying dancing emoticons at the top of the page?

Merely scroll/move the message window up until the cute little icon thingys are out of view.

We had a Coach House for many years, toured the CH plant and went to Phoenix to look at a used CH.  While at the PC plant we looked at how the PCs were put together.  I crawled underneath, poked, prodded & generally made a nuisance of myself.  Pretty much the same as I did at CH.  We finally regrouped in Stuart's office and when he asked if we wanted to see the Coach House, I said "...nah...don't need to"  I now was of the opinion that the Phoenix was better made & why bother. We later that day finally left after trading in the CH & buying a PC.

I thought the beauty of a smaller camper was that I could go to a museum or sightseeing, do city/urban type parking & driving thus not needing to abandon the camper & necessitate having to double back to the campsite after an excursion.  Now that we have a 31 footer that is a lot harder to accomplish.  We have towed our scooter, car & boat depending upon what we want to be doing.  I wouldn't worry about it.  Try not towing, try towing what you have.  It is not like being on a boat anchored off Mackinaw & wanting to go ashore without having a dinghy.

Doesn't diesel cost more than gas nowdays?  Well, anywho, I figure it costs me 50 cents a mile to travel out & about.  That was in mid May.  I'll hopefully do better in August going to Fl to visit son.

Just caught up with your posts. That camera was a pain, just keep pushing
the lower pight button to get it on. This new one is much more user frendly.
We also had a Pleasureway (14 yrs) & really enjoyed it, but Dee kept wanting
to use the tiny refer for food, & pull out my necessaties.
Cheers,

You are right about the camera being a pain.  I will just have to take a few seconds longer to set it up if no one comes up with a solution to change the default settings.

If anyone knows how to change the default camera on a "Zone Defense" backup monitor I would appreciate the advice!

i always thought that Florida had lots of seafood.  Not like Port Townsend though.  We are surrounded by water and the local fish store has fresh Black Cod, Sockeye salmon, live crab and oysters and clams.  I will have to pack carefully.  The oysters freeze quite well for fried oysters or oyster stew but they don't taste good raw after they have been frozen.  You must have gulf shrimp?

Joe Patti's Seafood in Pensacola, FL is our favorite seafood market.  We would just about make the 400 mile trip to Pensacola from Nashville just to go to Joe Patti's.  It's an enormous market, with loads of seafood.  Point at what you want, they'll bag it up, then you can walk it over to another counter where they will steam, season it, ice it down and send you on your way for no add'l charge.

We winter in Yuma, AZ and find ourselves dying for some good seafood.  They carry the usual frozen stuff some of which is okay and some is pretty bad.  "Fresh" seafood means it is probably a week to 10 days old.

So we are going to pack up the little deepfreeze with fresh caught frozen and foodsaver packed fish and seafood.  It will be a yummy winter of eating.  Going to put the freezer right behind the driver's seat in front of the slideout on our new 2551.  It is supposed to be delivered on the 18th (the 2551 not the seafood).  Can hardly wait.  Found some sheets at Camperworld.  Only had to make one of them 6" shorter.  The width will be fine. I just cut the sheet from side to side, removed 5.5" and sewed them back together with a french seam.  The seam will end up under my pillow or by my feet so should cause no problem.

Can I get someone to contact me at popsdixon@gmail.com to talk about changing from a Class A to a Class C? I live in Texas and would love to see a PC in person without having to drive all the way to Indiana.

The PC Annual Reunion will be in Kerville, TX in September. I am not sure of the exact dates, although I believe it will be in Mid-Sept. Kermit, the owner of Phoenix, generally brings a new PC to the Reunion.

Speaking with him really puts a face on the company. We have had 3 PC's in the last 3 years. That will tell you two things: 1. We REALLY like the PC and the company and 2. We couldn't get it right. We now have a 2013 2910 and are happy.

James, we live in Benbrook, TX. Don't know if you are anywhere close to that. We just picked up our 2013 2100 Monday and love it. We're still in Elkhart. We'll be on the road for 2 or 3 more weeks and then back home. If we're anywhere near you we'd be glad to show it off.

My pictures got lost.

We just got our new 2013 PC 2551 this morning and it is BEAUTIFUL.  It was just like opening Christmas Presents since we had never seen one before.  Yesterday we picked up our 7 week old puppy so 2 presents in two days.  Wow.  Will try the pictures again.

Well, well, well, Anne and Bob are "Official" now.

               (cheer) (cheer) (cheer)

Now that you own one, you'll find the Tips And Tricks section most interesting.  People have done nice things to and bought nice things for their PC.  You'll wonder where is a good place to hang a bath towel, or place a garbage can, which type is best and where to get it.  The 2551 is the most popular so you'll benefit a lot when reading through that section.

PCs change from year to year, so the changes I made to our 5 year old rig won't always be directly relative, but I think you'll find application for some.
Some of the things I mentioned are not covered by other people so I thought you might appreciate the link.
