woo sound coming from bathroom/kitchen area
« on: September 19, 2018, 05:59:16 pm »
My 2910 is making a woo sound, like a Halloween ghost. It is most of the time, but not all the time. Cutting off power makes it stop for a while, but it will start back up. Doesn't seem to relate to using any systems. It isn't a constant woo, but goes for about 5 seconds, stops for a second and starts again, an even pattern. I was thinking the water pump under the bed, but it just isn't coming from that area. Seems loudest in the bathroom. I have gone under the rv and it doesn't seem to be coming from underneath. It is loud enough to make hard to sheep. Any ideas? Thanks for any advise. Rick

OK... thanks for putting up with my smarta**.    :-D

Would it be possible to video/record the sound with a cellphone and post?

"cutting off power'  stops it for a while....  meaning you turn off the engine? Unplug from shore power?

Possibly a ceiling fan cycling on and off?

In all these years on any RV forum, I never heard that one before, a wooing sound.  It sounds like something electric.  Be persistent in resolving it.  Such things could drain the batteries, critical when boon-docking, not to mention also that the device making the sound will fail quickly.

I wonder if the sound is from a waste valve not closing completely.  Maybe there is debris lodged in it.

Try this.  First make sure both waste valves are closed.  Fill each waste tank completely.  You can use the tank flush setup for that.  Filled with hot water would be ideal, but cold water will also work.  With both waste valves closed, remove your 3" manual waste dump cap.  After some waste drains out, there should be no continuing flow.  If you have a flow, as little as it might be, one of your valves is not completely closed.  First open your black waste tank valve and let it rush out the 3" opening in hopes to dislodge an obstruction.  Then do the same with the grey tank.  Hopefully afterward your valves close completely and the wooing is gone.

If that did not solve your wooing, a "waste" of time, you at least flushed out your waste tanks very nicely.

If this is happening while using the city water hookup check that you have an external pressure regulator connected , and that the fill valve is in the correct position.

Test your propane leak detector/alarm . If it’s older than 5 years it should be replaced and may be chirping that it’s due. It’s hard wired to 12v but  turns off and on with the coach battery switch.

Try running your water heater in electric mode. If the thermostat or burner is bad it may be constantly re-igniting in gas mode.

Turn your furnace thermostat way down or off to make sure the fan isn’t constantly cycling on/off. A worn blower motor would make a whirring sound like a hair dryer.

Check to see if the previous owner added an auxiliary fan behind the refrigerator coils  or on the rooftop sewer vent.

How about the pressure relief valve on the hot water heater?  As the water gets hot, pressure increases, etc.

Thanks for all the thought you have put into this for me. I recorded the sound, but have been able to get it downloaded to the forum. The sound comes with the shore power hooked up, but with no water hookup, I haven't been using a pressure reduction value, but have one on order. The propane gas is off. Water heater, refraig, ac/heaters, and water pumps are all off and I still get the noise.

The sound is different then when the sewer valves are opening/closing, but I will check to assure they are closing all the way, thanks for the idea. l have spent a lot of time trying to track it down and while you can hear the sound anywhere in the rv and outside the rv, it seems to be coming from around the bathroom cabinet.

On a another note my xanteck 1800 inverter makes a beeping noise every second and has a e5 trouble code, which I understand is a overload on the output side. This issue didn't started before the woo sound, but could they be related. Thanks for the continued support. It's tough being the new guy. Thanks Rick

I am not familiar with the details of model 2910, but in our older 2350, the GFI outlet and tank heater switch are in the area of the bathroom vanity.  Make sure the tank heater switch is off, and test your GFI outlet.

youtube link for mystery sound. Thanks for all the help my getting. I hope posting the sound will make it easier to identify the problem. I also have a trouble code e5 on the inverter. The manual says this is a output overload. This issue doesn't seem the be related to the mystery sound, but wanted to throw it out there. Thanks Rick

That sounds like a slide out motor. Don’t know if there are any relays or limit switches . Check your stair step too.

Maybe the inverter issue is related.  Try turning it off.  Shouldn't need it on when hooked up to shore power anyways.

You guys are getting me there. I do have the inverter off, but when it is on, I'm thinking that the overload code is cause by the device that is wooing.

I did try the breaker thing and the fourth breaker from the top makes the woo stop. With the breaker off, the slides, refrain, ac, units, leveling jacks all were still powered. I can't read the labeling for the breakers and can't figure out what it is tied to. Does anyone know what this breaker protects. Thanks Rick

Do you have a power awning?

I do have a power awning. I checked and the breaker doesn't control power to the awning. With the breaker off it still operates. Thanks for the help.
