I love that story, and have used it many times.  My wife is also retired military, the United States Navy Nurse Corps.  She just rolls her eyes when I make the "men's department" comment.  We all know it's true.  I suppose this is getting off topic, BUT, the "wooing sound" has been resolved. 

Had the original poster indicated a "whirring sound" instead of "wooing sound", I could have instantly diagnosed the problem.  I am very familiar with the sound of a roof mounted dish searching for signal.
