Question on rattles on my manual step and shades
« on: June 01, 2012, 04:42:12 pm »
While driving down the road both my step and shades are rattling. Anyone else have this problem, and if so what have you done to eliminate these noises. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Randy,

I am a bit of a nut when it comes to noises while driving (can't help with the steps because I haven't had to deal with that).

For the shades:
Attach the sticky bumpers (self-sticking pads) to the back of the lower bar between it and window frame.
Place sticky bumpers between the shade's upper bar and mounting bracket to make it tight.
When possible, travel with the shades up.

Another thing that rattles is the range top.
Remove the grills,
Remove the screws securing the range top,
Lift off the top,
Squeeze the larger burner tubes a bit so they are tight on the smaller tube,
Install sticky bumpers so the range top corners will rest on them,
Re-install the top (we don't travel with the burner grills in place).

Another thing; if you don't have them already, install a few sticky bumpers between the screen door's frame and sliding bar, which also helps if the door slips out of your hand and slams against the frame.

We've got sticky bumpers all over the place but you can't see them unless you know where to look.

Peg is great when it comes to storing stuff; everything is wrapped so it doesn't rattle against anything else. heartshower
Carry on, regardless..................

Doing this eliminated one of the worst noises our 2350 made.

Our conventional crank-up roof antenna would make a horrible sound when road bumps were significant.  The noise made me nuts.

I placed these pads on the antenna feet that make contact with the roof when folded down.  I bought the larger squares of this same peel-off sticky-back material I had cut two small strips and placed them on the underside of the ends of the antenna wings that would flap up & down and slap the roof.

I got a tip from a PC member here, sorry I forgot who, suggested using small strips of the same material in the flip-down counter extension to the left of the sink.  That was not a big source of rattle noise, but adding pads in the hinge area there killed 100% noise from it.

I think these pads are sold everywhere hardware is sold, possibly even in a grocery store in the home hardware section.  They come in many sizes and shapes and thicknesses.  I use the thick ones.

One more comment about rattles.  Over-inflating the tires by a lot is real hard on any motor home.  Not only does it increase the rattles, but it unnecessarily over-stresses the over-all rig and all it's components.

You forget me already, Ron? (WH)
Items A, B, & C  and rubber size B are just about all I've used (but I've used a lot of them).

Sorry about that Bob.  I converse with many people on 4 forums.  Please give me a little grace on this one.
I never did give you a "Helpful" rating on that flip-up counter rattle tip so I did just now.   :)(:

Heinz R:

I had a rattle in my 2551 step that I just could not fix so I fabricated two curved tension arms out of 1" steel flat stock.  I drilled two holes in the fiberglass skirting opposite the top of each end of the stair and afixed the flat stock with some large washers and bolts to spread the pressure out over the fiberglass.  Where the flat stock touched the stair I placed to rubber stoppers (old shock asorber rubbers) that were fastenend thru the flat stock with small bolts that I counter sunk into the rubber.  I bent the flat stock just enough to place pressure thru the rubber stopper onto the top of the stair and it stopped it from rattling around.  I have a new PC now or I would take some photos, hope I have made sense?   Thanks
