Randy,
I am a bit of a nut when it comes to noises while driving (can't help with the steps because I haven't had to deal with that).
For the shades:
Attach the sticky bumpers (self-sticking pads) to the back of the lower bar between it and window frame.
Place sticky bumpers between the shade's upper bar and mounting bracket to make it tight.
When possible, travel with the shades up.
Another thing that rattles is the range top.
Remove the grills,
Remove the screws securing the range top,
Lift off the top,
Squeeze the larger burner tubes a bit so they are tight on the smaller tube,
Install sticky bumpers so the range top corners will rest on them,
Re-install the top (we don't travel with the burner grills in place).
Another thing; if you don't have them already, install a few sticky bumpers between the screen door's frame and sliding bar, which also helps if the door slips out of your hand and slams against the frame.
We've got sticky bumpers all over the place but you can't see them unless you know where to look.
Peg is great when it comes to storing stuff; everything is wrapped so it doesn't rattle against anything else.
