A saga and some plumbing questions

Got a new (2021) PC 2351D last Fall. Still learning a lot with this rig, very different from my old Winni’s. Today I thought we were all set to do our first trip of season. I had just tested our new setup for flat towing our jeep. But  yesterday I discovered that it’s quite important to check to see if the plug for emergency break line has not been accidentally pulled out (which then continuously applies brakes). Jeep seemed to be pulling fine until I started to smell burning rubber.  Now I realize why it so important to check the patriot braking system  wireless brake monitor, which I could not install because I could not find a cigarette lighter type 12v plug in the cab. Thinking about switching one of the usb plugs for one that will power this monitor.  I am not sure how hard it would be to do this. And btw jeep will be in shop for a while.

And today the final straw on our camping plans was seeing water leaking from around the black water tank. My wife was not at all impressed with my skills so far. . It turns out I failed to notice that the flush valves on the tanks were not closed since winterization. So apparently the gray water filled the black water tank to over flowing. This was indicated by the sink and toilet no longer being able to drain, and the meters indicating the same. As far as we can tell it is leaking somewhere under the rig. No evidence of water on floor. There was a thin stream of water on the outside,  coming from a seam just above  the side hinges for the cover for the sanitation system. Anybody ever had this issue?  We want to make sure it isn’t pooling water somewhere and  damaging something.

This is a great forum, have learned a lot so far. But these rigs sure can be complicated!

Hi palaback,

I have no direct advise to give, only my thoughts if this happened to me with our 2007 2350.

During winter preparation tank cleaning, I have never filled up our toilet tank so high that the waste water backed up right close to the toilet bowl valve.  If I did and I discover a dripping, seepage under the motorhome, I would simply brush it off.  In the real world, we would never allow the tank to get filled so high.  Disturbing the system to better seal the waste pipe fitting on the top of the waste tank, would likely cause more trouble than the repair is worth.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for your quick reply. I agree with your assessment. We will have a RV repair shop check things out just in case, while doing other work. As long as water is not pooling up somewhere, I think we learned our lesson and will not let this happen again!

Update 5/11.  Still had problems with Blackwater plumbing. After quite a bit of experimenting I finally figured out what appears to be problem. It looks like the bathroom sink drains directly into Blackwater tank. This is why it overflows. Now that I know this I do not use bathroom sink to empty freshwater into gray water before dumping tanks. Easy work around for now. After camping season I will probably try to get it fixed.

 If water is draining out of the black tank side of the macerator  with the bathroom faucet running maybe the wiring to the electric gray and black valves was reversed? Did you check that out  by running the kitchen faucet or shower instead ?

Following up on Calcruisers point, when we bought our PC from its original owner (only kept it for eleven months), I discovered the black and gray dump valve switches were mislabeled.   So, Gray was really Black and Black was really Gray.

I have no idea on if they have changed this or not, but Phoenix used to have the bathroom sink plumbed into the Grey tank, not the black tank. If nothing else, I would contact Dave Posner at Phoenix and discuss the issue with him.
