Toilet Replacement
« on: February 06, 2022, 10:23:20 am »
I am considering replacing the factory installed toilet with a more updated and better toilet.  Has anyone replaced their toilet?  If you did what did you purchase and why.  I would like to consider one that has a better water flow, consider hand held sprayer, and a better soft closing seat.  Was replacing your toilet the same as replacing one in our residential home?

thanks

Dave

I pulled ours to replace a leaking seal. Very easy job. Very similar to pulling your toilet at home. Look for a youtube video.

Hi DKCruzser,

I have seen other PC owners (and other RV brands) install a porcelain RV toilet, never a residential toilet.  I have also seen them add a kitchen faucet sprayer to assist with rinsing #2.  Hopefully they will reply with many pictures for you to review.

After replacing our Thetford AquaMagic5 with an AquaMagic Style II   I could not be happier. We just came back from a weeklong festival, and the comfort of the commode has me impressed.  I will NEVER settle for less.

We have not found a need for the sprayer, or the soft close lid.

The total absence of black tank fumes is the other benefit of the new commode. Since we got the coach in 2018, if the black tank had any content you could not drive with the windows down. It STUNK. I replaced the seal, and was getting close to tearing into the roof vent to see if something was disconnected. We could NOT leave the coach parked with blank tank content, it would stink.

Well NO more. Driving home with a near full tank, we had windows open enjoying the breeze. Waited 3 days to go to the dump station, and NO odor in the coach.

I could not be happier. I mean it. Here is my post on it.

We bought and installed this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BGHYMU/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&aaxitk=1dadfcbd5db4619958cdbc6a482e6ddf&hsa_cr_id=9946820690701&pd_rd_plhdr=t&pd_rd_r=610c229d-f32a-4849-a0a6-26a6d6ccb67d&pd_rd_w=5Toqx&pd_rd_wg=Cnde5&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_1_title&th=1

Easy to replace and works very well.

Thats the pedal flush version of the one our PC came to us with. Ours was the hand flush.

The problem with the Aqua Magic V is that the inside of the toilet shell is open to the black tank. The valve in the bottom keeps the water in the bowl, but does NOT seal the pipe. Easy way to tell is to hold the valve open, and look in.  On our Aqua Magic V  ( I am typing AMV from now on!)  you could see the pipe was ~3 inches or so down from the seal. This leaves the entire hollow interior of the commode open to the black water tank. See pictures and diagnostics here: https://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php?topic=4601.msg41121#msg41121   Ours was full of dead and not so dead maggots when I removed it. I did not take pictures of that. Wish I had, no one would consider another AMV after seeing them.

Our AMV let a stench into the interior of the camper any time the windows were open while underway. Despite other members stating "" If the flush valve opened into just air, now there is nothing keeping gasses from flowing out that 2" open area and out into the room air. RVIA does not permit that. ""  this is indeed how it is.  Or was, I have not inspected the latest AMV toilets. Would appreciate any correction.

For $60 more at Campers World, and a weight penalty of 16 pounds  (~9 lbs for the AMV vs 25lbs for the AM2) I consider the comfort and cleanliness of the porcelain bowl in the  Aqua Magic Style II (AM2)  a bargain. The bowl contour and design are different.  The design keeps the water level lower, and front of the bowl goes down MUCH steeper than the AMV.  This makes for much less (none anymore for me!  (cheer) ) unexpected contact with the bowl and/or water by male body parts. No more smell, and home comfort for $60 and 16lbs more?  Depends on your level of comfort, frugality, and CCC, but for our rig it was a deal.

WOW!   Went to get a picture to add to the end of this post, The AM2 low profile is now only listed at $172 at campers world!  Taller one is $183.

Volkemon, I have an 08 2350 and my toilet sits on pedestal and has the hand flush system.  I am trying to imagine using a foot flush on a pedestal.

Sir, thanks for the video.  I have thought about a foot flush but the wife is undecided.  I certainly don't want to make her mad.

Heck no!   heartshower heartshower

Mrs V prefers it, she did not like bending over the commode to flush before.

I can see where physical condition would make the action difficult.  It may not be ideal for all people.
