Bathroom Heat

We've owned a few RVs before but the heat in the bathroom in this one is really bad.   I should state we live near Las Vegas Nv.  I have put reflective insulation in the shower skylight with a silver dollar size whole in the middle for some light.   I will be getting a vent pillow insulator (or whatever they call it).  I am also going to change the white vent cover to smoke.  Any other suggestions?

On my 2351, I prop the bathroom door so that it is slightly open to increase air circulation.  In the summer, I put the bathroom fan on low.  This draws the air conditioned air into and through that back corner room and helps quite a bit.  On cold winter nights, I also keep the door slightly open, allowing the relative warmth from the rest of the coach to help out the bathroom.

Looking at the 2350 floor plan, perhaps you could block the bathroom door open, except obviously when you're using it or sleeping.

My 2551 has a sliding door for the bathroom entry and we leave it open all the time when not in use and it is comfortable in there.   I realize our floor plans are very different but hopefully the open door concept would keep yours more comfortable.

I understand.  The bath in our 2007 2350 can get quite warm when the rest of our rig is being air conditioned.  We will sometimes open the roof vent which helps.  Vent open or closed, it gets warm and we most often let it be so, but we sometimes wedge the bathroom door open when at camp.

Our bath can also be the hottest room when it is cold outside and the furnace is running, because of the heat duct dedicated to it.

Thanks for all the replies.  I have left the door open but not left the vent open.  I am going to replace the noisy fan with 1 or 2 computer fans.  Then I will open the vent a little and turn on the quite fans.

I added an over-the-door towel rack, and ALWAYS slide it over  to prop the door open while stationary. I also open both roof vents  before going out for the day, except in bear country.

We live in The Coachella valley la Quinta /Indio Ca so I understand Vegas heat. We deal with the same issues.  I’ve been reading every forum I can relating to heat issues.  One option I intend to try is using white marine paint and painting the shower dome (outside). Supposedly you still get some light and it stops some of the heat transfer before entering the motorhome.

One word of caution.  I wouldn’t use anything reflective on the inside of the dome. The heat can be intense enough to warp the dome.  I’ve read if it happening and as an example I used reflective material on the inside of our garage door windows and in 2 days it melted the frame work enough for windows to fall out.

Plastidip spray paint peels right off if you want to experiment, and you could check the amount of light getting through in between coats. It held up well after 2 years on my side view mirrors.

Anyone with two AC units having this problem?

Hopefully someone will chime in, but I think PCs with the bathroom across the back wall have a pocket door in the center isle.  I imagine they leave the door open to allow cold a/c into the bath.

Leaving the door open on a 2350 is different because it swings into the room, not hidden in the wall.

As far as how many a/c units is concerned, it is surely nice to have two for a variety of reasons.  Since they all run loudly, it is nice to turn off the one where you are hanging out at the time.  Run the living room a/c unit when sleeping, and run the bedroom unit during the day.  If you are in extreme heat, then run both full blast to maintain a more comfortable temperature.

Having two a/c units in a 2551 and shorter is unheard of.  I think there are a few 2552s with 2 a/c units.  Hopefully someone with a 2552 will have a lot to share.  Bigger than a 2552 would surely benefit having 2 a/c units.

Of coarse, if you never camp in hot climates, that changes everything.

I wonder how people handle "power" with 2 a/c units.  I don't think the standard 4000 watt Onan generator will support both running at the same time.  I wonder if a larger generator fits in the PC provided space.

Just replaced that noisy stock fan with 2 computer fans.  Much more quiet.  Will snap picture after dinner and upload.

Here are a couple of pics of the fans I installed. 

I replaced the white roof vent cover with a smoke cover.  Installed the 2 fans.  Worked in and out of the RV all day.  Opened the vent about 2 inches, turned on the very quiet fans and the bathroom must have been 15 degrees cooler.

You found something that works for you.. good job.  I assume you installed a rheostat to control the speed?

That’s a great idea if it will hold up under the desert sun. I know marine paint will but at under $10 to try plasti dip and easy to remove if it doesn’t work out it’s worth the effort.
