What you find
« on: June 06, 2020, 03:06:13 pm »
Getting ready for our second only trip in the PC bought last December.  Installing new weather tech floor mats(nice fit). Anyhow happened to look up and under the right side bottom of the Samsung tv there is a 4 way push button.  Controls all sorts of functions on the tv.  Never saw it before.  Knew everything there was about my chinook that got sold Monday.  This 50 amp rig has all kind of surprises.

Yep!  Sofa had just been replaced before we got it in dec.  had driver, passenger and recliner redone.  Hint for those that might want to do this. Cheaper to buy all new!

Cheaper to buy new! Holy crap, it costs well over a grand a seat to have it recovered?  Maybe I need to consider going to pick a part. I had no idea it might cost that much. I was guessing 500-600 a seat.

I paid $500 per seat plus material.  We had to call Paul’s in Elkhart (his tag was on the sofa) to figure out how to take off arm rest, he quoted $480 for brand new seat!

Your only going to have to buy the seat, not the power base.

Oh I wasn’t aware... another learning experience. Looking at the seat controls I assumed it was all in. I wonder how you incorporate the controls into another seat.

So I looked at seats with ultimate leather. $740 a piece and that was the entry level on one of the sites. The better quality seats of course were more. I’m guessing there may be cheaper sites but if I’m replacing I sure don’t want the same cheap quality that came with the PC. So I’m guessing I’ll be closer to 900 a piece for better seats.

And as you said it cost you 500 plus material.  I’m guessing material and new foam if needed isn’t cheap as well so the difference may not be much even up grading. I was hoping they could be done for 500 max all in and obviously I’m way off on that thought.

Paul’s is the (I think) supplier for PC.  I’m quite sure any new products will be ok.  Also I think PC only offers leather now?

If you have a modest skill level to remove the seat and swap seat skins, I would call Pauls Seating at 574-522-0630 or email them at paulsseatinginc@frontier.com and ask them for a quote for replacement seat skins for your model and year PC.  Pauls might have your exact PC on-file so provide both your chassis and PC VINs.  They should be able to provide an accurate quote on exact replacement skins, both the color and style.

If I were dealing with the degrading vinyl, I would go with top grain leather on all seating surfaces to assure the problem never repeated.  I would not trust China-provided vinyl seating material again.  They may fix their process, but later play their switch-a-roo game again to save themselves a little money.  Then you are right back where you started with more lost money and time.

I learned that switching seat skins on regular vehicles is not that hard.  I've done it on a 1999 Corvette, a 2006 Jeep Liberty, a 2007 Pontiac Solstice, and a 2007 Saturn Sky.  I have never done it on a PC, but I would think it is not much different.  If you have reservations about doing it, order the material for your worst seat (and it's mate if that is the case) and give it a try.  If you are overwhelmed, then take your PC, or just the seats to a local upholstery shop for the installation.

Ron, looking again at the lousy quality of the seats they install in PC it would need to be super cheap before I would consider just recovering my seats. I had forgotten that the arm rest on the passenger can’t be moved with out beating on it and how I need to sit on a cushion I got from Costco because the seat sags badly. I’ve been reading and it appears good foam is pricey so I doubt mine will be an easy or cheap fix.  I agree on the vinyl but All leather is not equal as well. The leather in my fusion is hard and thin and really a disappointment. I think I may go cloth this time around unless something really big sways me.

I looked at Paul’s website. At least I think it’s the correct web site. You can’t order or even price seats.  Not impressed and if it was Paul’s who supplied the seats I have now I certainly wouldn’t consider them.

I also see where fkexsteel is no longer an option pulling out of the market.

Ron, and of course buying another brand seat I may be just buying another headache. However I figure at least I wouldn’t be adding insult to injury by repeating what’s in the PC now.
