My wife and I recently purchased a used PC. The battery door locks were mismatched. One side locked on the flange of the fiberglass exterior body panel. The other side locked on a metal flange attached to the metal battery compartment.. Seemed the metal flange on the one side had broken off. Also, it seemed without the benefit of a metal lock on the "strong" side, any stress imposed by a load, the weight of the battery tray would break the fiberglass (already weakened by having a slot cut).
Not being the original owner, I can only speculate the fiberglass slot was not factory authorized.
Having access to a welding machine, I modified the battery tray opening. The addition of a right angle bracket mirroring the placement of the other metal piece seemed appropriate. Now both sides lock into the sturdy metal frame.
