Hi I am new to this site and and wanting info on which RV might be the better one. I am going to be selling my condo in Scottsdale AZ. and buying my first RV and going FT. I am looking for a 1) PC 2550 2) Lazy Daze RB/dinette or 3) Born Free RB/dinette. If anyone has pros or cons on differences between would surely appreciate and thanks.

Hi Jan,

Born Free, Lazy Daze, Phoenix Cruiser....they are all good brands.  It comes down to your specific needs & wants.

When I did my internet research for a motor home, I looked at the three brans you mentioned.

:( on a Lazy Daze because we wanted something more aerodynamic which translates into improved fuel economy and more importantly....better handling.  Because of our garage height & length limitations, the LD would require deleting of roof-top features, for example the a/c unit.

:( on the Born Free because they did not offer a main floor bed in a shorter length we required.

The Phoenix Cruiser 2350 floorplan and exterior dimensions were the primary reasons for our purchase.  But after we owned it a short while, I quickly learned it was a great choice for reasons such as design & ingenuity, workmanship, and customer support.

First of all, welcome to the Forum (cheer)

I can only speak of PCs. Five years ago, we bought our 1st motorhome. It was a Class B-Airstream Interstate on the Sprinter chassis. We were gone for about 3 monthes and found it too small. Then a new PC 2350 on the Sprinter chassis-that rear corner bed did us in. The next year, a  new 2551 on the Ford-twin beds. So, we went to the Tampa RV Show last year and traded the 2551 for a 2910.

I think it is all in how you plan to use the PC. Since you say you are selling your condo and fulltiming, you need to carefully consider the space. We really bought the 2910 because our plan is to become reverse snowbirds and leave FL in June and return in October. The 2910, for us, has a very spacious feel in the main living area with two large windows and of course, those comfy Euro chairs.

We loved the cab on the Sprinter and the MPG with the diesel. Don't love the MPG on the Ford but it is what it is, and we knew that!!

Hi Jan,

     Welcome to the site.  We had a travel trailer when we first retired and started RVing.  It did not have a permanent bed and I was determined that the next RV would.  We were using the TT about 2-3 months every year.  It had a nice large dinette that made into a bed but doing that every morning and every night was getting tiresome. 
      We then purchased our first PC in 2008, a 2350.  Two things attracted us to this model, it was small and we thought it would be easy to get from place to place and yes it had a permanent bed.  Well, the corner bed did me in.  If it was just me, by myself, the corner bed would have been just fine and there would have been enough cabinet space for me alone.  We spent from 3- 4 months every year in the 2350.
      In 2011 we sold the 2350 and bought a 2551 and love it.  We spend 4 - 5 months in it and I find that it is very comfortable and we can carry everything we need.  It is still short enough that we can go anywhere and the living area is plenty comfortable.  We did custom a few things to our liking, the TV was placed on a swivel mount and we opted for a non-powered drivers seat so that both seats can turn around and are great for relaxing or having another couple over.  We are in the process of changing out our couch to make it even more comfortable for us.  We had opted for the older model couch since the new model was just too deep for me so now we are looking at putting in a jack knife sofa so that we have a comfortable couch and can utilize the drawer under it.   This unit also fits in our garage so that is a very big plus for us.
      Judi amd George's 2910 is another great unit.  We camped with them in FL in January and their setup is very, very comfortable. 
      We had looked at the Born Frees and Lazy Dazes as well but Phoenix was the only manufacturer that would work with us in doing almost anything custom that you want.  We made up a list of what we wanted and PC was able to accomodate our every need.

Thanks for the info from those who responded. I did look at the 2910 but thought the 2550 if can find would be a better fit for me being only my bird and I will be traveling along with those Red Solo Cups :)(:. Everyone I'm finding seems to be the corner bed and I know I don't wan to contend with that everyday, but do like the looks of the corner shower with what looks like a seat. I want the rear bath as seems more storage, liked the cabinet behind driver seat. I'm sure I will be putting in extra storage shelves as I find out what works for me. Jan

Jan, For just you and your bird, the rear corner bed of the 2350 would work fine, and the dinette table great for Birdy.  The issue with the 2350 involves two people in that bed.  As far as making up the bed, there are ways around that of which people resort to a bed sack....or whatever they call it.

I would rather have a permanent bed like the 2350 than something that requires setup & take-down daily.  The 2350 is quite short as well.  Much easier to drive around solo in.

Just my thoughts about it.

     You are absolutely correct.  Since we have had both the 2350 and 2551 I can defintely agree with you that the rear bath gives you much more storage.  In the 2350 I used to have to keep some of the bath items in the cabinet outside the bathroom.  Now I have room for all bath items plus some non bath items in the rear bathroom.  It is also very easy to shower and dress in the rear bath.  With the 2350, we would many times dress outside of the bathroom due to lack of space.

     If I was a FT rver I would want to make it easy on myself as well. 

     As for the length of the 2551, we actually find it easier to drive then the 2350 and have not had any situation were we were too long.  We have parked in shopping center parking lots, gas stations, restaurants, and rest areas without any issues.

     The most important thing to remember about Phoenix Cruiser, you can draw up your ideal floor plan and they will work with you and try to accomodate your wants and needs.  Don't limit yourself to the models but (with reason) let them know what you desire and they will work with you.

    Having owned both a 2350 and now the 2552, we agree with Sue about the storage and the bathroom. One thing that was a problem in our 2350, and I don't know if it is in all the 2350's, was that the toilet was higher than a normal toilet. It was so high that my wife (5'7") had problems sitting on it and touching the floor.

    We bought the 2350 over the 2551 because of the smaller size and the mobility it provided and the 2551 did not have a chair to sit in and watch the main TV. When Phoenix came out with the modified 2551 which they named 2552 we went with it. It gave me the euro chair and my wife got an pantry. The added foot in the living area was a bonus in making it feel much larger inside. When driving or parking it I can not tell the difference between the 2551 and the 2552. I guess to some people the foot does make a difference as Phoenix still makes and sells both models. By the way, the 2551 and 2552 are the best driving and riding models that Phoenix makes according to Kermit. After having driven both I have to agree with him as far as the 2350 and the 2552 go.

    After owning the 2552 for over a year I have final ordered the Bilstein HD shocks for it because I prefer the sports car like handling they provide. Fed-ex will deliver them this tomorrow and after I have them installed and a test drive I will report on them. I have not really felt that the HD shocks are required, it is just something I like doing, and it might help a little.

My opinion,

The 2350 falls short in 3 primary areas

- handles worse, but can be resolved
- small bathroom  
- confining bed & bed access

But every model falls short in some manner.  It's come down to what is more important to the owner.  For me, if the longer length didn't matter (because of our garage depth) along with sleeping separately, I would prefer the 2552, even considering the benefits of our 2350.

- huge 2007 outdoor storage compartment
- easy maneuverability
- unmodified Ford stock chassis
- 10% better fuel economy

My wife and I just put a deposit on building a 2013 sprinter 2350 and are trying to decide if we want a slide with couch or dinette. We currently have a 39ft diesel pusher and have decided that it is way too big. Before that we had a 25ft Airstream that we camped in for 5yrs with 3 kids and 2 dogs and did just fine. My concern with the slide out with couch is loosing the extra cabinet space as well as above and under dinette and CCC weight. We are used to lots of storage space as Airstreams have lots. Plus we were used to not even having a slide in the airstream. The corner bed does not bother us, as we had one in the airstream. I know they both have pros and cons but are having a hard time finding lots of pics with dinettes. We are very excited about the process and cant wait.

OK, I'll stick my $0.02 in on this.
Regardless of Ford or Sprinter chassis, the Dinette in a 2350S will not sleep anything taller than a legless midget. The electric sofa will.
Our 2552S has the Dinette and we still haven't found a legless midget that wants to sleep over (my 12-year old grand-daughter is too tall for the Dinette).

Another $.02 worth. Our 1st Phoenix in 2010 was a 2350 Sprinter with no slide. We had the dinette. The dinette was very uncomfortable to sit and eat at. I understand that the seats in the dinette are much better now. My opinion is to get the 2350 with a slide. Depending on how many travel with you, you can always get the table with spider legs for eating. Also, I believe that more folks want a slide. It took us 3 trys to get it right. We now have a 2910 and love it! We did love the Sprinter for the cab space and the mileage. We did not find a problem with storage space. Hated the rear corner bed and the constant looking up to view the tv/ neck strain.

BTW, we had an Airstream Interstate before our first venture in Phoenix Cruisers.
