Rear vs. side storage areas (2350 model)

I have yet to take my Phoenix Cruiser 2350 camping as it is still winter here in Illinois, but I'm spending lots of time in it doing whatever I can to be prepared once Spring arrives.  I bought the Hickey's trade-in early this month. 

It seems more difficult to me to access the rear compartment with having to pull the ladder pins and folding it up before opening that compartment than it is to gain access to the side compartment. Has anyone moved their power cord to the side compartment for this reason?  Does the drawer that's part of that side compartment ever collect water while driving, washing the coach, etc.?  If so, it would still be ideal for storing water-proof items like the garden hose and power cord.  Enclosed plastic boxes could also be use to protect items stored there from water. 

On that same subject, I'd like to store my lawn chairs in the rear compartment as I seldom use them, buit the eye hooks mounted in the center of the bottom of that compartment prevent the chairs from setting on the bottom of the compartment.  If I remove those hooks could I replace them with short bolts and hooks to plug the holes.  What about the hooks that are designed to hold the power cord?  Can I remove them and replace fill those holes in the same manner?  I don't know that the back side of the compartment wall is accessible. 

What ideas do any of you have for the best use of these areas?

Hi Glenn,

I own a 2007 2350 with many things the same between yours and mine.  I ordered ours without the ladder & roof rack installed (it's all in my attic) so I can't comment about that inconvenience.  I don't have the under-bed outside drawer either, as ours is the earlier full single door design shown here.  But a lot else is very common given we both do NOT have a slide-out of any kind.


I removed the eyelets in the rear compartment to store a nice folding table shown here.


I have done some things to ours of which you might relate to some.  Click Here To See The Article Maybe it will spark a couple ideas for you.


We bring lawn chairs similar to the ones shown here that fold up in "Tubular" fashion, stored in sacs.  They store under the bed nicely.

I used the drawer to store 2 water hoses, 2 power cables, extra extension cords and 4, 2x10x18" leveling blocks.
The drawer did leak. I added some gasket material to the left side to stop the leak.
 I also changed the U hooks in the back, they just unscrew. I built 2 shelves to hold fuel canisters for the grill, torch fuel and cleaning sundries. This left room for a beach umbrella, 5x9' rug, extension handles, wash mits and ax. I stored 2 zero gravity chairs, a director's chair, a 2' step ladder, gas grill and a box for distilled water in the storage above the drawer. We got a lot of stuff in a small space. I would attach a picture if I could figure out how to do it!

Here in NH I use the ladder a fair amount to clear snow from the roof so it does come in handy vs's getting the step ladder out,  but i agree with you 100% that it is a pain to pull the pins, etc so what i did was to merely cut approx. 12" of foam pipe insulation and placed two (2) pieces over the ladder side rails (top section)  where the bottom piece folds up and hits the top portion; the faom keeps the two pieces from scratching  one another ... I use two nylon straps with slip buckles and just torx the bottom piece up to the top and away you go.  Hope this helps?

I like the idea of leaving the ladder folded up out of the way and less appealing for kids to try and climb.  That would make access to the rear compartment even easier than to the side compartment as there is only one key lock on the rear one. 

Thanks for all the ideas.  I'm sure I will experiment with numerous arrangements for storing things in those two compartments before I come upon one I prefer.  I may just have to wait and see if my particular rig has problems with water collecting in the side storage drawer.  My guess is that will most likely happen from road splatter as opposed to rain. 

We are under a winter storm watch here now through Wednesday PM and I am really anxious for spring to show its face.  I look forward to sharing experiences and ideas with everyone.  That reminds me; can someone explain to me why my "Helpful rating" is -1?  How are those assigned?   :beg

Look under your rating, you will see a "mark as Helpfull" button that others can hit if they think what you wrote was helpfull. Or they can "disagree" with you.

I replaced my ladder pins with longer pins that do not require the bottom clip. I just slide them in and out to move the ladder. Quick and easy.
