Sawdust Blowing out of Main AC Unit
« on: August 15, 2018, 09:07:35 am »
Our unit was purchased in mid June - we've exercised the various systems on the unit, but haven't camped in it but once.  One recurring headache is that the main AC unit blows what appears to be sawdust out on initial startup.  The amount is decreasing every time we start it, but still, it's annoying that the "sawdust" wasn't vacuumed up during the build.  Anyone else experienced this on a new unit?

Yep.
After months of sweeping it up every time we camped I took apart everything I could take apart and vacuumed inside, under and over.  Still get some occasionally but its mostly gone now.

Under the bed was the worst but all the cabinets, the A/C unit and the light fixtures all accumulated either sawdust or styrofoam insulation pellets.

This is where PC falls short, overall it's a quality rv but assemblers work to fast and overlook a lot of things. Sawdust in vents, foreign objects in tanks, stripped screws, scratches in sinks. They need to slow down  instead of seeing how fast they can get it out the door. This is a problem through out the rv industry. Buyers are happy when they only have 5 or 6 issues to repair when new. If you bought a new Toyota Camry or Ford F150 and had 5 or 6 things wrong with it when you bought it, you'd be upset. No matter how big or how many parts, it should all work correctly when new..

Glad I'm not the only one, sad it's there in the first place.  Nothing like a blast of sawdust in the face when turn it on.

Well no surprise. We had metal shavings and saw dust and screws every time we opened the living room and dinette slide. that went on for a long time. The first couple of times was really something. Sometimes just driving down the road we would get shavings on the floor from the dinette slide. With the cover off the ac you may see where the shavings are sitting. Then when we really looked I came up with a wrench, screw driver, and other parts that I returned to the shop last July when we made our run and got things put in order.

Wow, now you've got me wondering what might be up there - could be Christmas in August!  Seriously, time to head up and remove the cover for an inspection or two (since we have two units)!

We've been sweeping up metal shavings for 4 months. They appear between the slide out platform and the electric sofa. It seems the worst on rough roads. I can't find the source. It seems to make no difference if the slide is in or out. When I pull out the foot rest, there they are, It doesn't seem to come from the bed. They have to come from under the slide or the bed. It seems to be less and less all the time. PC had to grind the metal stop on the foot rest slide. It's a welded lump of metal that keeps the foot rest from pulling completely out. I just talked to a guy last night with a 93,000 dollar Jayco 5th wheel, it was in the shop 19 weeks having the floor repaired. Problems are to common.

Guess these problems are industry wide standard.  I just traded my 2340 in for a Winnebago Intent.   Love the unit; Love the handling: Love the floorplan: love the mileage.  But after 5 months, it is going back to a dealer to fix about 5 issues.  One is serious.... Overhead cabinet is about to come crashing down on someones head... (No appropriate fasteners!)  Can one imagine Winnebago not knowing how to mount an overhead cabinet?

But just talk to businesses today as I do occasionally.  With the economy BOOMING as it is, they say to me, it is very difficult to hire GOOD new help. What is out there, that is hireable is now the bottom of the barral . Makes sense to me.

Good thing, many of us know how to fix stuff.... Cuz we have to do it ourselves.... sadly.

Yes I have to agree.  If my Winstar would have had that many defects, I would be upset. But thinking this is RV industrial standards SADLY!

But thinking this is RV industrial standards SADLY!  Sadly, when I came to pick up my 2350, they said I wasn't expected at that date, even though I had an appointment.  So I just figured all of the imperfections I found was because of THAT!  I'm now thinking that was their excuse for the coach not being ready. (They certainly knew we were coming as I had an appointment way beforehand)  Wife and I cleaned up debris inside coach for months. So folks don't feel bad if you have some debris to clean up after purchase.  It is, what it is! uote]

When we took the factory tour in early 2016 with Earl, we were struck favourably by the build similarities with Foretravel in Nacogodoches, Texas.. http://www.foretravel.com/  We had owned a (much loved) 40 ft Foretravel U320 DP coach when we were fulltiming, and wanted to see how they were constructed and were very impressed with the care taken at every build station.  After Earl showed us around and explained each build station, we knew downsizing to a PC was for us.  Although our budget didn't allow us to buy new, we did find Fawkes, our pre-owned 2 012 PC 2400 Sprinter after extensive research.  After becoming  PC owners, we would tell others about our favorable comparison of Phoenix USA with Foretravel.  It is disturbing to read the above comments about the current experiences; and we will be continuing to monitor this thread before making any further such validations to our several friends who are ready to downsize.  :'( At our age, Fawkes is our final RV and couldn't be happier with the quality of the build.  :)(:
