Trailer behind a 2006 model 2350

 
 
Looking at getting a used trailer tomorrow, one of these -

5K GTW, 1200# empty, 90(!) # tongue weight, Dual torsion axles... looks like its perfect. Going behind a 2006 Model 2350.

Advice? Opinion?

Hi Volkemon,

I would consider the following.

- Make sure your PC has a 5000 pound hitch in good condition.  They like to rust badly and weaken from it.  Phoenix used to install a 3500 pound hitch.  I don't know when they switched from the 3500 pound hitch to the 5000 pound hitch.
- Consider a heavy duty rear stabilizer bar.  Being a 2006 E350, you have NO rear stabilizer bar unless installed by a previous owner.
- Consider installing a rear trac bar to prevent the "tail wagging the dog" effect.  Trailers like to thrash side-to-side, the back-end of a short motor home with a short wheel base and long rear over-hang.  The location and position of a half full fresh water tank in a 2006 2350, the water sloshing side-to-side amplifies the problem.

BTW:  Nice choice for a trailer.    What is your plan with it?

I agree with Ron.  I currently have a 2007 2350.  Towing just a Honda CRV changed the handling significantly when compared to towing nothing at all.  I had to add the rear sway bar and trac bar, they made a big difference when towing.

That is a sharp trailer!  It will look good behind a PC.

I will be posting pics, but too busy working. Great little trailer. Towed like a dram empty  We had a headwind 100 miles home, and it almost bobbed around a bit it was so light. Never felt it behind the wheel, even over rough bumps. LOVE a tandem axle.


Our hitch is a 5K or 6K with equalizer. Structurally very sound, but I might add a little bracing. Lucky for me, this coach has no rust to speak of.  Plan is to get a weight distributing hitch to use those axles out back, they are 3K each.  

It (The trailer)  came with a LARGE roof unit installed in the forward 14x14 vent hole, which had the roof collapsed.    Current owner was lacking skills to repair, so I now own it.   Roof unit is pulled, and I am making up roof struts today.

13 foot inside length, 7 foot width.   6'3" inside height.  LOVE IT.  The rear ~8 feet will be cargo hauling, and the front looking to be a camp kitchen/light storage area.

Will be perfect to haul our golf cart, my motorcycle, or ?? we decide on later.
