Radio/nav/rear camera dead

While doing weekly crank and drive exercise of PC, I was disressed to discover apparently no power to the radio.  A forum search revealed someone had a similar problem by replacing the ford 40amp fuse.  Unfortunately they neglected to identify where the fuse box was located.  The owners manual indicates it would be located left of brake pedal next to cowl wall.  I have contorted myself into to flloorbord  but see no obvious cover for said fuse panel anywhere.  I did locate the fuse panel under the hood but did not open deciding to post my dilemma here for suggestions for resolution.  Does anyone have suggestions for locating the appropriate fuse and location of the panel?  Please be explicit as I am a bit challenged with this sort of thing.

It says the radio fuse is in the passenger compartment fuse panel.
 
On my E-450 the interior fuse panel is on the left side of the driver's space.  Find the brake pedal, look left, you should see a black plastic cover with markings on it.  They are little squares with numbers in them.  Use a flashlight, I had to in order to see it.  The numbers are location markers for the fuses. 

Pull off the plastic cover, mine is a pain because the carpet is in the road.  The fuses are under the panel.  Per the diagram look at either 39 or 41 but not sure if that is correct for your year.

Thanks jatrax , With your description, I found the fuse box with several clusters of wiring bundles covering it.  Not sure how the retention clips on the cover are released.  I can experiment but if anyone has the secret formula for releasing the cover, please respond.  On the fuse diagram, one of the items listed is inverter, I suspect that is merely the illumination of the inverter light.  Regards,  Larry

Larry, I just pulled on mine and the cover came off.  I grabbed the right side and pulled to the right and then toward me, came right off.  Not sure if that is the approved method or if the box is even the same on my truck.

Note that 'inverter' on the truck fuse panel is possibly for an (optional) Ford inverter that will power a 120 volt receptacle if installed.  It will have nothing to do with any inverter installed by Phoenix.

I will give it another go later this week per your push to side and pull method.  I can see the clips/retainer on the side of the box cover,  it looks like a flathead inserted and pried would release but as you know, not much room to work under there.  I didn't want to break it if another method would work better.  I will post up my results.  Larry

I finally opened the fuse box by squeezing both latches and pulling it off.  I suspect this would be the proper way.  After checking I could not find a blown fuse of 40 41 and 39.  My ford manual indicates a 20a in slot 39 for radio, but also lists a 15a in slot 41 for radio as well.  Now i wonder if whoever connected the radio has it in different fuse location.  Pulling, checking, and replacing each fuse would be a daunting experience.  I am open for suggestions...anyone??    Larry

Larry at this point I think checking each fuse would be the next step.  Not fun for sure.

The only other thing I can think of would be to pull the dash and radio and check to see if the wires are connected.  Or if there is an in-line fuse somewhere.  And that would be even less fun.

Do you have the Ford radio or the one added by PC?

You might also reach out to PC and ask if they put the radio on a different fuse.  I guess I would do that first. 574-266-2020 ask for Dave Ponzler.

Utilizing a 12v test light I have found all the fuses to be good (got light on both sides) except location 28 5a , audio mute.  At this fuse I got no light on either side of fuse but visually appeared okay.  Back to the search of forum, someone posted the same problem of dead radio/nav/cam.  Another member replied that their fix for similar problem was solved by replacing 40a fuse in location 12.  The 40a is under the hood box and is a maxi fuse and owners manual identifies this fuse is "modified vehicle and stripped chasis run/start" .  I  will call factory tomorrow for hopefully clear direction.  Thanks, Larry

Hi swiftboot,

In my 2007 and for some model years thereafter, I recall a large-in-line fuse (maybe two) that supports the rear camera.  It is located behind the driver's side-kick-panel by the parking brake pedal and release lever.  You might want to look behind there to see if your 2015 model has PC-installed in-line fuses there and that they are all in good order.

I might be wrong about it because it has been a very long time ago that I stumbled upon it.  But just maybe my memory is good and you find the answer to your problem there.

Also check behind the left kick panel or under the floor mat near the kick panel for an inline fuse to the radio.

Thanks to Ron and Ron, I have tried to pull out the side panel to see what is hiding there but don't see a way to pull it out far enough to expose the wiring.  The panel is tightly wedged into the plastic of the door opening so can only pull back a few inches.  Is there a secret to removing this panel without damaging the door plastic?  It does seem that the panel would have to be removed to allow the carpet to be pulled up as well.  I have a call into factory, awaiting call  back.  Does anyone have any comment regarding the maxi fuse in slot 12 under the hood?  I haven't removed that fuse yet and it's not clear if it's blown, no way to test it with test light.

That kick panel needs to be removed to see everything adequately.  It has been a long time since I had mine out.  I would have to do it again to provide instruction.  Something inside me says the trim on the floor (the black threshold) has to be removed first.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.  Hopefully someone else who did it more recently will provide details for you.

I did get a PM response from bside60 that had a similar problem referenced above.  He indicated he had to remove the dash to reach the inline fuse and could still barely get at it.  It was the fix in his case.  I still want to access the area behind the kick panel hoping that hard to get fuse is there.  Still no response from Dave at factory but will keep trying,

I have experienced no joy from the radio problem.  I am considering an install of a Pioneer radio with rear view cam capability but not sure if the existing rear view cam would be compatible.   Best Buy has a free install at this time.  I did have a call-back from a riverpark tech saying there was an inline fuse behind the radio.  If it's merely a fuse for the fix, then I would keep the current radio and have Pioneer as an extra.  Question remains, what is make/model etc of rear view cam installed by  Phoenix and would it be compatible with Pioneer?  Just had  a call back from Barry at factory and they are closed til Monday.        Thanks, Larry

Swiftboot, sorry to hear of your radio headaches - just wanted to let you know I have the optional Pioneer radio Phoenix installs - I opted for no NAV, but the standard backup camera feeds to the radio video display without any problems.
