Over head Samsung TV squeaks and rattles
« on: December 14, 2016, 10:34:17 pm »
As soon as I left the PC plant with my new RV, I noticed a constant and annoying squeak/rattle noise. I finally tracked it down to the TV over my head ( which now has a bracket that allows moving the TV around for different viewing angles). I wadded up a paper towel and stuffed it between the bottom edge of the TV and the wall that the TV is mounted to. This stopped the squeak/rattle -- but I need to come up with a more eloquent solution:)

I would talk to PC.  They tested their bracket specifically to avoid having any type of noises - why they had previously avoided a swing out arm.  If it isn't working they need to know so they can see about a solution.

I purchased my first MH from PC (2351 without a slide) 10/16 with the swivel.  Earl showed me how to use the swivel and I was on the road for 30 days and never found that it was really needed.  Possibly for a larger PC and with a slide, I might find that the angle of seeing the TV could be improved with a swivel.  As a first time owner of a MH, I have no comparison as to whether the swivel has added a squeak or a rattle.  Personally I found my travel that was not off-road was quieter than expected (it was a new PC).  Should I order a new PC in 10 - 15 years, I'm not sure that I would include the swivel.

Hi John,

I agree with you.  Having a dinette without a slide out in a 2350, 2351, 2551, and 2552, the TV mounted directly to that wall without a swivel feature is the way to go for it is already in the right place for viewing.

Hi,

I am not trying to defend Phoenix on the squeaky TV issue.  I simply wanted to say that you will find in every brand of motor home (PC's included), they rattle in so many places.  If you can resolve the rattle with a stick-on felt pad like the ones I show here, I would place it in the category of "Normal Expectations".  Now if you have something abnormal going on, that would surely be a different story.

I suggest you buy a package of felt pads and use them about your cabin.  I and many others like me did with great success.

Ron

These generally come in two popular colors.  Dark brown is the other.

Thanks Ron for the felt pad suggestion.
I had also been thinking about trying adhesive backed foam strips that you can buy for weather stripping.
I will have to experiment with different thicknesses of cushioning material to see what works.

I had a ticking (or clicking) sound in the overhead of our new 2351. Drove me nuts. Had the TV down, wrapped all the wires behind it,  shoved insulation down the a-posts. Just couldn't find it. On day while washing the windshield, I noticed the rubber windshield molding was touching the molding between the cab and nose cone. Put some liquid soap on it and IT WAS GONE. Liquid soap washes off in the rain so now use WD 40. Might try to trim it in the future.

We have the old style bat wing crank-up rooftop antenna.  I tolerated a banging sound on bad bumps for a number of years until it dawned on me that the antenna could be the cause.  Felt pads under the feet and under the ends of the wings and the banging on bad bumps has been gone since.
