Thermostat replacement
« on: September 21, 2016, 12:15:30 pm »
My 2004 2550 cruiser has old-school hard to use manual thermostat on/off furnace controller with TINY plastic tab to turn on or off. I think newer models have digital therms. Has anyone successfully swapped out the old unit?

Hi Rosy,

I don't know what thermostat is in your 2004, but the manual thermostat in our 2007 2350 is pictured HERE and we like it a lot.  It is simple, straight forward, and not reliant on a battery nor a pair of reading glasses.  Given it's placement over our bed, I can adjust the temp in the middle of the night just by "feel", in total darkness, while half asleep, perfect! :)

At home we switched from the old round manual Honeywell thermostat to a digital one.  I'd pitch that digital thing in a heart beat except then I'll need to patch & repaint the wall.  It will be swapped back as part of the next paint job.  The problem we struggle with our digital one at home is that it is hard to re-program the default temp.

Sorry for not addressing your question, but I figured it would be okay to provide our experience with the manual one.

Ron

I wish I had that manual one, ours is horrible, small, and has no numbers, just lines! Thanks for the photo! By the way, my hubs followed your lead and changed out some of our lights to LED just as you did, perfect!

Who says new is better?  I prefer Ron's to the electronic one in our PC.  I had an old Honeywell go out at home and we loved it.  It had two settings only:  one for day and one for night.  Foolproof.  I foolishly bought a new digital to replace it when it went out and there was no day and night only model I could find, so I got the standard seven day model.  It was a nightmare.  I threw it away and bought a digital with only one temp setting.   Like Ron, I never could program the super duper model correctly.

Less is more!

Attempting to schedule service which may be due to digital thermostat as A/C unit runs but won't restart after a cycle until turning off the thermostat and turning it back on.  May also be circuit board in roof unit.  Also had furnace circuit board replaced.  Unfortunately RV electronics are not so reliable yet.

Update; Dometic is sure my problem is not the thermostat but the roof unit circuit board and also asked if I could change to an analog thermostat but they say no, not compatible so need to verify before buying a new thermostat, analog or digital.

I have the same thermostat as Ron but am having problems with it. The temperature is way off. I have to set it at about 90 to get 75 out of the AC, yet approx 80 will get me about 45 deg on the heat it used to work correctly. . Any ideas what to try?

Hi racephoto,

I wonder if it can be calibrated like a conventional thermostat at home.  I'll have to look through my original paperwork to see if mine can be calibrated.  If not, then replacing it would make sense.

Doing a quick search, I found one for sale HERE for less than $32, but the 4th position is for a heat pump, not a heat strip.  I wonder if that setting could be used for either one.  You could re-use your old cover to reflect your heat strip.
