Mattress covers/pads for twin beds?

Mattress covers/pads for twin beds?

What do those of you with a 2551/2 or 3100 do about mattress covers for the twin beds since the mattresses are not a traditional twin size?  Do you just buy twins and use the "garters" on the back to snug them up?  Same with fitted sheets?

We find no problem with using traditional twin size bed mattress covers and sheets--just tuck them in to snug them up.  Another possibility is using bunk size sheets.

When we first got our 2551 I bought some sheets at JC Penney and modified them to fit snuggly on the beds.  Here is a link to that post with pictures.

Thanks Sue!  I might just have to do something like this one day, when I have access to a sewing machine.  Since we are nomadic, I don't have that any more, but my mother does, so when I visit her, I might be able to modify whatever we end up buying.  I guess I could sew them by hand, but a machine would be so much quicker and easier!

I don't know if this will work for PC twin bed models, but maybe so as it does for us.  For our 2350 rear corner full size bed with the odd angle, we learned that buying normal full size "Cotton Flannel" fitted sheets is the solution.  Just wash them "HOT" and dry them "HOT" and they shrink so bad that they fit perfectly over our reduced size, full size, cut-corner mattress.

Just maybe buying twin size cotton flannel fitted sheets for your PC twin beds will yield the same great fit.

As far as a mattress pad goes, we learned with our 2350 that it is best not to add mattress pads or toppers to reduce that swallowing-up effect.  It is a confining bed being tighter in the corner, so less fluff is better when it comes to rolling over and getting in and out from the bed.  We also realized we sleep better without all that.  I do wish we had a memory foam mattress for I think it would be better yet.  I am waiting for our original mattress to first bite the dust.

But you with easy entry twins don't deal with the same as us 2350/51ers.  Maybe toppers and pads are welcoming.

Good thought on the flannel sheets, though I fear they might be too hot for the warmer areas we plan on visiting.  We used to use them in the winter in the US (we're in Mexico now), and they were nice and cozy!
 
I use a mattress cover to protect the mattress and keep it cleaner.  Unless it is very hard, we won't need heavily padded ones.  I've been in soft, large beds with deep toppers and totally get the "swallowing up" effect.  Not a fan.  But a thin cover on a twin mattress won't be an issue.    :)

On the 3100 we just use regular twin sheets and tuck them in on the back side and they are fine.   I would be hesitant about raising the actual height of the mattress with the addition of any toppers, etc because you would then be whacking into the shades etc.   I have often thought about ordering new mattresses (have not done it yet) that are more to our liking from a firmness perspective.  There is a company in NC (I think there was a post on this forum pertaining to custom mattress construction) that will customize any size in any firmness for you I think they may offer custom sheets as well.  best of luck, Ron G.

Ron G. I just ordered and received a new mattress from a small company in town that does custom size . They build mattresses for boats as well as mattresses for the home and Rvs. I got to try the firmness in the shop. It was finished in 4 days. I love it. The price was $299. We only ordered one 'cause George likes his mattress.

I bet there are Co. in NH/ME that build custom mattresses.

Sorry for the late reply...but www.ablifestyles.net will custom make them.   We have the fitted mattress pad, fitted bottom sheets and top sheet.   We love them.  

They make and ship them quickly.   Give them a call for an exact quote.
