Tailoring sheets for 2551/2552

I finished tailoring the sheets for our 2551.

For each bed I bought the mattress pad at Kohls called "the Big One"  and a twin set of sheets at JC Penney that were the J C Penney 300 count sheets.

Mattress Pads - On the longer bed (passenger side) I sewed in two darts lengthwise on the elastisized portion of the pad.  This allowed for a nice firm fitting of the mattress pad.  For the shorter pad, in addition to the two darts lengthwise I had to sew in a dart in each of the corners to shorten up the pad as well.

Twin Sheets - For both beds I had to sew up the corners on the fitted sheet.  On the longer bed the corner seams were taken in 1 1/2 inches each and on the shorter bed the corner seams were taken in by 2 3/4 inches each corner.  This made the sheets fit head to foot very nice but the sides were still too loose.  What I did to fix this was add two elastic straps that have velcro in the middle so that I can tighten up the sides of the sheets.  They are also now nice and tight.  The sheets were very nice since they had elastic all the way around and not just on the corners.

I am impressed! Good job.

I have a feeling that the guy in the red suit with the white beard might put a sewing machine under the tree. For me, that would be a disaster.

A very impressive set of homemade bedding!  My father used to make drapes, seatcovers, tool rolls, and other sewn items, but I never got the urge.  For others like myself who are too lazy to do it yourself, I would heartily recommend AB Lifestyles who sew them up to order in the USA.  I bought fitted sheet sets and mattress pads from them for $180 or so for my 2551 and have been well pleased.    Go for the machine. 

    I really dislike sewing but find it saves alot of money for projects like this.  My mattress pads and sheets for both beds were a total of $44.  I couldn't find them that cheap online anywhere.  The more money I save the more money I have to travel!!!

Actually, the sheets fit perfectly because they were made to order to my mattress measurements.  The company is a cottage industry in South Carolina and sews up bedding for RVs, yachts, semi truck cab sleepers, and other hard to fit applications.  Call them and talk to them about your needs.  They'll tell you your options (like a elastic "boot" on the bottom of the top sheet)  and costs, but you really don't pay extra for dissimilar length sheets.

Barry-Sue,

I really like what you did to get your fitted sheet tight.  With our 2350, the mattress has that angled corner so it would be a bit trickier.

I showed to my wife what you had done but it has not inspired her to do anything with our wrinkled sheets.  Maybe I will drag the mattress upstairs over the winter and try something myself.  How hard can it be?

Ron,

When we had the 2350 (corner bed) I actually sewed in an angle on the fitted sheet and it was nice and tight.  I did not have to add the straps to it.  The other thing I did was sewed in hospital corners on the top sheet and attached it to the bottom sheet so we always had nicely fitted sheets.

you might try the rv super bag.we bought one for our 2400 and love it.just google rv super bag and see if you like it.

If you do a search on rv sheets there are other companies but people on this website have recommened AB Lifestyles.
