MICHELIN TIRE RECALL
« on: December 15, 2013, 11:10:44 am »
Just saw this on the news  double check your tires

Michelin said the LTX M/S tires in a 225/75/16 size were designed for “commercial light trucks, full-sized heavy duty vans, small recreational vehicles and some large pickup trucks.”

Ford used the tires as original equipment on the 2010 through 2013 models of its E-Series vans, a Ford spokeswoman, 2010 to 2013.

They are being recalled and replaced..

Thanks for the notice! looks like I'm in it-just wish I had more miles on them.  ;)
It's not that I'm insensitive, it's probably that I just don't care. ;)

I was looking around on the internet trying to find out how much this "no charge" tire replacement was going  cost and found this reference.  It looks as if you only have 60 days from the time you are notified of the recall to get the tires replaced.  It also looks like notification must be in writing but I'm not sure that if you call Michelin with a question and give your name and address if it constitutes notification.  For those that are traveling this winter the sixty days may expire before they return home.  I am not a lawyer so do not know all the ramifications of this code but thought I'd post it just in case.

Also, remember to include your spare tire in this recall.

USC § 30120 - REMEDIES FOR DEFECTS AND NONCOMPLIANCE

b) Tire Remedies.—
(1)A manufacturer of a tire, including an original equipment tire, shall remedy a defective or noncomplying tire if the owner or purchaser presents the tire for remedy not later than 60 days after the later of—
(A)the day the owner or purchaser receives notification under section 30119 of this title; or
(B)if the manufacturer decides to replace the tire, the day the owner or purchaser receives notification that a replacement is available.
(2)If the manufacturer decides to replace the tire and the replacement is not available during the 60-day period, the owner or purchaser must present the tire for remedy during a subsequent 60-day period that begins only after the owner or purchaser receives notification that a replacement will be available during the subsequent period. If tires are available during the subsequent period, only a tire presented for remedy during that period must be remedied.

Don't know how we dodged it since Tom's 2012 and several others' 2013's have the bad tires and we bought between those but we did dodge it. The four tires we can see say B3JH 009X. We still have to check the inner dualies but it is likely they are the same as the others. Thanks for the heads up Sparky!

Just got back from our Michelin Man and they did not have a clue about any recall (Tire Kingdom). Checked all our tires, including the spare, and they were all on the recall. They have ordered replacements.

The Manager has no clue what other charges we might incur.

Seven tires=lotsa $.

Again, thanks Sparky!!!!!!

2Frazzeled....That 009X does not look right at all...should be four digit and should only be no more than one (1) zero since the first two digits represent the week of production and the second two are the last two digits of the year.  0-52 for weeks and obviously 10-12 for the years.   I would be very surprised if yours were not part of the recall since the DOT sequence number is the same as the recalled units.  Michelin is a superb company and do not have any doubt that this will not cost us a cent at  the end of the day.   Thanks

The four tires that I can see on our 2014 2552 (built on a 2013 E-450 chassis) have B3JH 009X and 1313.  So, they are outside of the recall manufactured dates.
