General Discussion / Re: Macerator Hose Attachment
« on: June 17, 2025, 11:38:02 am »
Problem solved. After chatting with Keith at PC Service, we determined my unit has the Thetford Turbo (I think the 600) with a screw-on "Marine Kit Cap" fitting to attach a garden-type hose to. Apparently not all the PC units have this. He is sending me one for about the same price as Amazon. The fitting is black and screws onto the grey handle. It likely worked its way loose over the past 5 years. I only really need it if I want to dump an extra distance like at home where I have a 75 foot hose just for reaching my sewer cleanout.

FWIW When we were at the factory for service in early May we were told they did not need all the space they had. These moves often happen due to cost considerations e.g. leasing.

General Discussion / Macerator Hose Attachment
« on: June 15, 2025, 02:20:46 pm »
Our slightly used 2019 3100 came with the macerator hose with a fitting on the end for attaching a 3/4 hose for extended length pumping,. Very handy to reach the sewer cleanout in our yard with an extra garden hose when necessary. Last week, while dumping at a campground, the end piece detached and went right down the sewer pipe never to be seen again. I thought the end section was one whole piece.. Attached is a picture of what we have left for a hose fitting. Before I call Phoenix, does anyone know if the fitting I am describing came with the PC either optional or original equipment?

General Discussion / PC Forum Unsafe?

FYI My antivirus (Malwarebytes) did not want to let me access the site until I did an override. It said the site license was 5 days expired. Doesn't look like anyone else had this problem.

General Discussion / Re: Valve Stem Extensions
« on: January 27, 2025, 02:00:47 pm »
I might be mixing apples and oranges..we previously had a diesel pusher which had valve extenders which were always a chore and undependable. When we reached our first tire change many years ago I told the tech I wanted something simpler and easier to access. He was able to either reverse the tires and/or use a straight valve extender which reached all the way the wheel cover for easy access. Many years ago so hard to remember exactly. Except that life got much easier after that. I plan to do the same when changing the PC tires which "only" have 19,000 miles and look good. MY workaround these days is to remove the wheel covers to get at the valves.

I appreciate the reminder about the DIP switches. I am more interested at this point in how the Dish service is e.g. customer support, ease of changing packages and if anyone has experienced a problem with the T4 dome after switching (should not I know). My intial thought was to upgrade the dome to a Winegard Travler like we had on a previous big rig but the cost versus use isn't worth it. We have had Direct TV for 20 years in our RV's when fulltime and now at home too. Not sure why the dome came configured for an SD-only system (DIrect TV) on a 2019 unit. My current DTV in the RV only gets a few channels.

Thanks,

Hank

Just talked with Winegard about upgrading satellite hardware and now seriously thinking of switching from Direct TV to Dish Network on our Roadtrip T4 so we can have our TV channels back. As you likely know, the T4 does not support HD on Direct TV. Much less costly than swapping out rooftop hardware. Other than changing the DIP switches on the T4 and getting a Dish receiver, any other issues I should be aware of? Winegard said I can get pay-as-you-go contract from Dish. We would still keep our Direct TV at home, at least for now. Would mean separate accounts, but not quite ready to do a full switchover to Dish.

We went to the factory 4 years ago after we bought our gently-used 2019 3100 to get the initial 2,500 mile checkup which was never done. They were very welcoming and we came away with swag too - nice coffee/tea mugs and tee-shirts. The whole checkup took about an hour.

General Discussion / Re: Batteries
« on: September 03, 2024, 07:19:08 pm »
I just found out NAPA offers only one year warranty (replacement) on both flooded GC2 and AGM batteries.Wow - the last time I replaced either car or RV batteries they had a several year warranty. MY NAPA guy says prorated warranties are a thing of the past. He claims his 5 year old flooded batteries are going strong. I do see an Interstate Class 27 AGM with 3 year warranty. But aren't the PC batteries a Class 24? That Interstate Class 24 has a 2 year warranty. Besides the GC2-ECL-UTL (big and heavy), Interstate has an "EFB" (Enhanced Flooded Battery) which is smaller and lighter. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Re: Trojan versus NAPA AGM
« on: August 23, 2024, 07:13:09 pm »
Gary - I called Phoenix Service and Keith told me there is nothing to change on my 2019 if I change to AGM batteries from flooded. I see on other previous threads there was talk of needing to do something, perhaps in prior-year units. It appears Phoenix sorted that out.

General Discussion / Trojan versus NAPA AGM
« on: August 22, 2024, 04:51:47 pm »
I plan to switch from flooded to AGM batteries in our 3100. Phoenix Service told me they put in Trojans as an option and I have read several threads on the forum about AGM's. I prefer to deal local in our rural area and our NAPA dealer (my contact there is also an rv-er and retired military like me) is offering me a top of the line AGM for $300 each (I am getting a military discount). He also says this battery has a 36 month warranty although online says 12 months. Here is the online page:

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BAT9844

Anyone with Trojan AGM's care to comment on how this stacks up before I pull the trigger on two of the NAPA batteries? NAPA guy says the dimensions and weight (68lbs..ouch) are the same as their/my flooded GC2. Might need a young neighbor to help me.

General Discussion / Re: Vroom Slide System
« on: August 22, 2024, 04:35:13 pm »
Gary,

Did Fabel remove your slide to do the Vroom? Can they do other RV stuff like wiring? I ask because we now are scheduled to go to the Phoenix factory next April to fix a wiring issue (110V is shorting out and shooting/arcing because of contact with some metal). My local RV tech says the slide has to be removed to access and repair the wiring which is stil under the slide even when extended. Phoenix is estimating at least 10-15 hours of labor at $175 an hour. If I could get a Vroom and a wiring fix at same time it might make financial sense. As you see we also have a 3100 with that large slide.

Thanks,

Hank

General Discussion / Re: Lippert Slideout "Sparking"
« on: July 18, 2024, 03:00:06 pm »
I got a callback from Keith in Service at Phoenix this morning. He said they had not seen this sparking problem before. The good news is after several hours we finally found the problem. There is a metal fixed flange between the slideout on the right and the twin-bed bedroom wall on the left. Way down at the bottom underneath the metal flange is a wire bundle.with an apparently frayed wire which is contacting that flange when the slide moves. The wires actually pass under the metal flange and then go up a narrow channel between the metal flange and slide. So correct - not an actual slide issue since that is 12V. When the slide moves it seemingly creates enough vibration for the wire or wires to touch the adjacent metal flange. The tech did find some minor scorching down there.

The bad news is this issue cannot be resolved without removing the slide due to wiring access. And both the technician and Phoenix said not to use the slide until the problem is fixed. The tech recommended a couple RV repair places in our area that might do this. If I cannot get a local repair and have to wait until Spring when we next visit our kids in Indiana and could go to the factory, am thinking we could use the slide on battery power before plugging in to shore if the batteries have enough juice. Not the best choice but would avoid the 110 volt issue. Any thoughts on that? I am not an electrician..obviously.

Thanks,

Hank

I have a certified tech here and he says the issue is 110V, not 12V. We got a very large spark when we extended the slide. Got most all the wood panels and stuff off to trace it. Lots of screws! Seems to be related to wires impacting the steel facing that is between the slideout and the wall to the left where one twin bed is. There is an insulated/foam covered 1-2 inch area very hard to get too. I tried calling Phoenix with access questions but closed for the day.

General Discussion / Lippert Slideout "Sparking"
« on: June 19, 2024, 04:12:33 pm »
On the last day of a recent 7 week trek from South Dakota to Maryland and back to visit family the inside rear top of the slide in our 2019 3100 emitted at least 2 sparks when opening the slide. I was outside when wife informed me..loudly. The following morning, when retracting the slide the same thing happened...she saw 2 or 3 sparks shooting sideways. There was no smell. From what I could see there is a small wire bundle next to the slide edge and no apparent burning. That bundle seems hard to get to but perhaps easier from outside. The weather was not conducive to outside checking and we returned home that day. We have not tried to open the slide again pending some feedback here and/or a reliable local RV tech.

Anybody have this "sparking" on their slide? I am not an electrician, but seems a bare live wire might be contacting metal? Thanks for any thoughts. We are hoping to travel again soon but not before we isolate the problem.
