Changing Roadtrip T4 Dome from Direct TV to Dish Network
« on: January 24, 2025, 02:06:41 pm »
Just talked with Winegard about upgrading satellite hardware and now seriously thinking of switching from Direct TV to Dish Network on our Roadtrip T4 so we can have our TV channels back. As you likely know, the T4 does not support HD on Direct TV. Much less costly than swapping out rooftop hardware. Other than changing the DIP switches on the T4 and getting a Dish receiver, any other issues I should be aware of? Winegard said I can get pay-as-you-go contract from Dish. We would still keep our Direct TV at home, at least for now. Would mean separate accounts, but not quite ready to do a full switchover to Dish.

Dome antenna's, such as your Winegard RoadTripT4, advertise they can receive DISH in HD.  You need to change the dip switch configuration in the dome.  See your manual

I appreciate the reminder about the DIP switches. I am more interested at this point in how the Dish service is e.g. customer support, ease of changing packages and if anyone has experienced a problem with the T4 dome after switching (should not I know). My intial thought was to upgrade the dome to a Winegard Travler like we had on a previous big rig but the cost versus use isn't worth it. We have had Direct TV for 20 years in our RV's when fulltime and now at home too. Not sure why the dome came configured for an SD-only system (DIrect TV) on a 2019 unit. My current DTV in the RV only gets a few channels.

Thanks,

Hank

I have had Dish for many, many years.  zero complaints.   Their 800 number is easy to get ahold of a tech and adding or removing a "package" is quick and easy.

There are some reasonable limitations, you can't turn on something like HBO for just 1 day.  I believe the limit is a month at a time.
