Need help to diagnose an electrical Problem

Need help to diagnose an electrical Problem

I have 09 2551 PC. We are plugged in to camp site, with AC on  one outlet next to converter panel is hot, one behind drivers seat and micro wave is hot and refrig is on. Other outlets under sink, rear Tv, and bathroom, for front TV and hot water have no power.

Reset all 110 circuits no change.

Any ideas, if so Please call 727. 743. 5597 Or email ge.montana@ gmail.com

Back on, after unplug from site, fiddle with converter panel then replug. Ingunity wins out, like blind squirrel who finds acorn.

Any suggestions.

It sounds like the outlets you have issues with are the same ones that get powered through the power inverter.

Understand that power to those outlets you mentioned comes from 3 different power sources.
#1 - With The On-Board Power Inverter
#2 - When The RV Is Plugged Into A Power Pole
#3 - When Running The Generator


I am NO expert here, but I do wonder if your power transfer switch is faulty and simply needs a little exercise to work properly again.  I would try this and see is all is well afterward.

Unplug RV from power pole
Run generator and see if those outlets are working....(confirm your microwave is getting power too)
Turn off generator
Plug back into power pole
Test outlets again.


Report Back.  I am very curious about this problem of yours.

One time I had outlets with no power when plugged into shore power.  After exhausting all possibilities, I unplugged and started the generator.  All outlets worked.  Confused!  Turned of the generator and plugged into shore power again.  All outlets still worked.  More confused!  But never happened again.  (WH)

It sounds like your power transfer switch needed to be exercised, just as I suspect for ge_montana.

That switch is a mechanical thing.  Ours is mounted under the front dinette bench (no slide-out).  A few years back, out of curiosity I removed the cover and seen it looks like something that could use exercising once in a great while.  Though I personally never had issues, that idea was in-mind if an issue flaired up.  Your experience aligns with my theory.  Hopefully ge_montana reads this and gives it a try with successul results.

I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea to go through that ritual once annually.

I run my generator at least once a month. Wouldn't that take care of the switch also?

As long as you also use shore power on occasion, I would think you'd be covered.

I think the problem would arise if you use one power source exclusively.  The transfer switch would then stay in that one position all the time.

This is all my own theory here.  I have nothing to back myself up.

I agree with Ron, sounds like the inverter supplied outlets are the ones not working, except for the "hot water" - don't understand that.

Another senario for the condition Greg described is: when plugged in or generator running, if the converter panel breaker that supplies 110vac to the inverter is off or tripped and the inverter is off then the inverter outlets and TV would be off.  Maybe when Greg "fiddled " with the converter panel he got the breaker to the inverter going.

Thanks Ron, I do leave it plugged in most of the time and unplug for running the generator. Now I guess I will need to turn on the inverter once a month also.

Here is my diagnosis:  we noted that the voltage readout on the inverter switch showed "--- ----" so we disconnected from the pole, then turned the inverter (remote panel behind the driver seat on wall) switch on and off then the read out changed to "13.6

Then we plugged back into the pole and all was okay. We run the generator once a month and stay plugged in while in the nest.

This is an update, we did not experience this problem ever again on the last trip, about the only thing we did differently before plugging into the outside power is to slide the slide without the engine running.
