I have an xadc p50 and pro xm 1800. I believe the pro is the inverter and the xadc dc center? been looking for documents, manuals?
I also want to talk to you Bob about the bypass wiring the inverter. maybe you can tell by the post I'm at home and have nothing better to do!   pyho

This is the post that has the info on my mod, halfway through the post is where the Inverter fan noice is discussed.  Gradygal has since done this and maybe he has some more info. 

I just returned from two months in Arizona and the mod worked great.

I guess I missed something. On the inverter there is an in and out , on the diagram what happens to the in?

Billy,

The "in" is removed from the inverter and attached to one set of contacts of the new switch.  Now the 110v goes directly to the circuits when the switch is in that position instead of being run through the inverter, that way the internal standby relay in the inverter is not being used and therefore does not heat up and need the cooling fan.

Read my two replys in the referenced post carefully, I tried to explain the way it works as told to me by a Xantrex tech.

Where is the wiring diagram/discussion?

So as I look at your diagram you have eliminated the "in" to the inverter?

Yes, I replaced the internal auto-switching relay with a manual two way switch.  The relay is what needs to be cooled by the fan even when the inverter is not in use - no more fan noise in the middle of the night.

EDIT:
I re-read this and think it is not a clear answer to your question Billy.  I didn't replace or modify anything in the inverter itself, I removed the "in" wire from the inverter and ran it to the new manual two-way switch that I installed on the wood panel under the bed next to the inverter.  Now, the internal auto-switching relay inside the inverter is no longer powered and waiting for loss of 120v to make the switch to 12v, and therefore not requiring the cooling fan to cycle.

So if you turn off the batteries switched by door, the inverter will not need to cool it self? The reason I ask when you are dry camping could you turn off the batteries?

Hi Billy,

The noise you hear at night is the inverter fan cooling the internal switching relay when it has 110vac holding it in the 110vac passthrough mode.  If you are dry camping and not hooked to shore power, the relay is not energized and the cooling fan won't run, so turning off the batteries makes no difference.  Even when hooked to shore power with 110vac going to the inverter, turning off the batteries won't stop the fan from running because it is the 110vac that energizes the relay in the inverter.  Also, turning off the batteries does not disconnect the batteries from the inverter, the batteries are wired directly to the inverter with heavy gauge wire.  You can silence the cooling fan at night while on shore power by turning off the breaker that sends 110vac to the inverter.  Or you can do the mod I have described.

Aw- so, very interesting, thanks for the great info.


Edit:

There are two fans that, suck or blow thru the inverter, the one BIG problem is the dirt, crud and sawdust left in the compartment during building, personally I think this should have been cleaned up.
