fluorescent lamp cover

Can anyone advise how to remove the cover on the fluorescent fixtures in our 2010 - 2551??  Feeling a little ditzy and incompetent, but it's not intuitive, and I don't want to break the cover. soshelp

Do you have the lights that have the toggle switch to be dim or bright?  That is what we have on our 2012 - 2551.  We tried as well and didn't want to break them.  Soooo-we have to stop off at the factory the first week of April and plan on asking them to show us how to do it.  Will post if you do not figure it out sooner.

My lights have just the on/off switch facing the floor near on end. I just pushed lightly on one side on the center plastic and pulled down. It came off no problem. Mine just popped back in. 

One thing I noticed is that the tubes are 12" long. When I went to the stores I can not find any 12" tubes. I guess the RV parts stores might have them, i hope.  I was hoping to find a blue tube or a warm white so I can use one of the bedroom lights as a night light while watching the front TV. If anyone know where I can get a 12" blue or warm white tube, please let me know. Or if Barry/Sue want to sell me one of their three way lights.  :-D

Tom your best bet on the blue(or any color) tube may be a plastic sleeve that will slide over the tube.  Getting anything different than standard for these things is always going to be problematical.

   I saw Barry's response did you ever look at getting something like this:

   After measuring ours it looks like it would be an exact fit.  They are near Elkhart so if you have to go the factory someday maybe you can check these out.

Sue,
No our fixtures are not the multi-toggle.  Just two 12" tubes in a fixture with a clear plastic cover.  ON-OFF Switch is on the end (not facing down as someone described).  Cover wraps completely around from side to side.  We've pinched, squeezed, coaxed, and even urged with a table knife blade. Nada.  Won't budge.  I can see where little tabs on the cover snap into the assembly (3 to a side).  There must be a chinese puzzle gentle movement secret. It evades me.

Sounds just like ours.  I'm looking at them right now, except ours has the extra night-light in them.  Everything else is as you describe.  Hopefully the factory will help us when we see them in early April.

Went to factory for some warranty work yesterday and asked Doug to show us how to remove the lamp cover.  He reached up and was done in less than a second.  Is all he did was place his fingers as close to the top of the lense as he could get them.  He then pushed in and down at the same time and it came off very easily.
 
He even noticed that a couple of our bulbs were showing wear so he changed them for us.  They are really great at PC.    (8)

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about RV parts and such, but if you wanted a colored cover, would something like this work? http://www.amazon.com/Colored-Film-Gels-Colors-sheets/dp/B004A9PMGE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333927884&sr=8-1 then you could affix them yourself. We've used similar sheets over the years for lights in the house to make homemade night lights or for stair lights and to change out the landscape lighting colors for holidays.  (WH)

In response to "begentle" question on removing the flouresant light plastic lenses on the 2010 2551. You have to get a tool over the top and behind the cover, gently pull out and down.
 I used the thin metal lid that slides over the plastic container from a fuse box.  Bend the flanges flat except for the short flange. Slide between the plastic and ceiling next to the lug pull out and down.
