Any pets travel with you?

We spent 1 1/2 hours today doing water aerobics, I feel like a water dog.

Well, I guess I am in good company!

We travel with two Boston/Rat/Chihuahua mixes.  We laugh that we bought the RV for them.  Not entirely true, but party true! We don't kennel them, so it allows us to keep the "family" intact  We absolutely love traveling with them.  I built a "perch" for them between the two front seats and they curl up there and are already asleep by the time we get out of the driveway.   It does make make traveling a bit slower, as we generally get them out and walk around at every stop but honestly that's probably good for us anyway.  Most campgrounds are pet friendly, at least on paper.  I built a low portable "puppy fence" to put around our patio at campgrounds but we've found some locations frown on that.  We would never leave them out there without us, but it's nice for them to sit out there while we're at a campsite.  Traveling with them is a lot of fun.

I guess you could say we're looking at the PC for our two dogs also! We won't have to take them out of the cab every time we all want to get in the camper. Just turn around, get up and stretch. How great is that? In the cab of the truck we have now ours have their places (that they decided on), too. One in a dogbed on the rest between the seats and one in a crate on the back seat. We've been wondering where they will pick in the PC. Another thing, they both sleep with us and it will be easier not having to lift them up and down onto the bed in the cab-over. They're probably a lot bigger than your two. They're pretty hefty (not to say overweight). We'll miss that queen-size mattress though! Oh, well, trade-offs!

Until very recently, we had two Cardigan Welsh Corgis, about 30 # each.  When we had the Road Trek, we left the big double bed
set up in the rear, and put the corgis in travel crates on either side of the bed.  The crates were tied down, so they couldn't move,
even in a front-end impact.

There are a couple of situations that we are concerned about - the "internal crash" of dog against seats or bulkheads (or people),
and the possibility of the terrified dogs running around the accident scene if the doors were popped open in the impact.  On the
rare occasion that one of them isn't crated, s/he usually sits on the floor just between the people seats.

Now that we're down to one corgi, and have moved YAY! to a 2350S, we find that his crate fits nicely between the retracted slide
and the driver's seat.  He likes being closer to us, I think.  And we love having him along.

We've never had any comment about corgis at any park - haven't visited the National Parks though.

You have a regal taste in dogs.  Welsh Corgis are Queen Elizabeth II of England's favorite dogs and what she has had for some time.  There is an official state photograph taken in her younger years of her and her two corgis.  I always felt it should have been entitled "Corgi and Bess."

We have 3 dogs who travel with us and they love it.  Scooby and Rosco are Lab/Chow mix (half size dogs and litter mates) and Scarlet is a King Charles Cavelier (she's the boss).  Scooby and Scarlet are buddies.  Rosco just thinks he's the boss.  They like to meet strangers and think they came by just for them. At the RV parks they love to take long walks.  Each has their own leash and walk side by side with Scarlet slightly ahead (remember she's the boss).

We have a Tibetan Terrier- about 23 lbs.  He's great in our RV.  While driving, he travels in a crate we keep under the dining room table.  It works well for us.

No pets for us!

We travel with a Cardigan Welsh Corgi whose crate lives behind the driver's seat
in front of the slide-out.  He travels quite well - sleeps most of the time.  We trade
drivers about hourly, and most times give him a little walk then.

    I, too, once saw a parrot in an rv, haha...but we've always taken our standard poodle with us.  He can't wait to go!  Our
previous dog was also a standard poodle and she loved it!  We did see an rv with two of them once...wow.  Hard to imagine two
big dogs in there.  The slideout helps, though! 

We have always travelled with our Australian Shepherd.  Don't bring a crate since that takes too much room.  She loves to sleep on my bed so she can look out the window.  Normally the dogs are not allowed on the furniture but I didn't have the heart to say no.  Now we bought our 2551 because we have a 10 week old Australian Shepherd sister for Molly.  The minute the rig arrived the four of us got inside and there was tons of room. We have a 2' tall "yard" that the new pup will use when camped.  It will fit in the storage at the back of the rig.  We stop for pit stops about every 100-150 miles to stretch our legs and usually take Molly out on a leash in case she needs to go.  She has never had an accident in the rig.  Think we might put bring the crate for the pup to keep her contained when travelling.  We shall see.

Our experience has been that most parks will allow larger dogs on an overnight basis.  When it comes to monthly rent they seem to want cats or smaller dogs.  Our Aussies are under 50 pounds.  They fall into the large category.  Since we have a place down in Yuma for the winter we are no longer spending 3 months in the motorhome.  We usually go for long weekends or perhaps a week. 

If it was a contest I think I would have a good chance of winning.  I am a dog trainer and where I go my dogs go with me.  They are all obedience trained so it makes it easier.   I currently have a standard and minnie poodle and a sheltland sheepdog.  Three dogs now but have traveled with up to five.  Yes I make sure I clean up afer my dogs!   They are good travlers though I had one standard that got car sick.  She responded well to a stomach relaxers and eventually adjusted.  After a long drive they sure enjoy their walks.

We plan to travel with our 17 year old calico cat, Snickers... for a full year. It will be interesting. She gets stressed by change- like moving a chair to a new spot in the living room. She also gets severely stressed out if we go away so we can't leave her anywhere. My theory on calicos is that their brains are as scrambled as their fur patterns. They are super sweet, though. We have a game plan but no idea if it will work. First step is a harness in case we have to fly with her or take her out without a carrier or walk her in the woods (she has been known to stalk deer - they aren't' quite sure what to make of her). She only had the harness on twice so far, but my face has healed nicely so it is time to give it another go. Next step is a soft sided carrier. I found a cool one on Costco.com that zips to expand and double the space that we hope will fit behind the driver seat on the 2552. Hopefully she'll take to that so I won't have to pry her off John's head as we travel down the road. Once we get the PC we plan to visit it with her and maybe spend a night or two in there without turning it on so she can adjust to the new space. A few short test drives later, we'll be cruising with a happy, well adjusted psychotic cat - at least that's the plan. Oh, large quantities of catnip might also be on board.

If anyone has experience with psycho fireballs in an RV, please pass on any suggestions. We'll probably need all the help we can get.
