We’re currently on a caravan trip with 20 other rigs: http://www.adventurecaravans.com/usa/avc_usa_itinerary.asp?TCC=41USSE20131102 (Day 29).  We don’t travel with a pet, but probably more than half on this caravan do.  Mostly dogs but a few with cats.  However, we have one single woman in a large Class A that is travelling with six dogs.  So that you won’t think that’s a typo, she’s travelling with six dogs.  (nod)
I remember very few of the things that I’ve spent money to buy, but I remember all of the places that I’ve spent money to see.

I have a orange and white tabby ... she is 14 pounds of chunky love !!

If we take a lonnnng trip she needs to come with us, but Vince is dead set against it (I really don't want to take her either) I bought her a soft cloth dog harness (cat ones are to small  :beg).... she seems to only go in reverse when she has it on or just drops over on her back feeling she can't walk with her new iron suit on.  I  took her out to the rv .... she of course may be fat but she is ozzie fat so she proceeded to find every nook and crannie to try and squeeze into and hide .... not a good thing. Vince still says no but "we" are now talking about removing the euro chair we don't use and putting in a large soft nylon folding  dog crate to keep her in while on the road.

I can see that her joining us would be a problem, a continued escape try at each stop, although, if she has the harness on, she would slowly walk in reverse into the couch instead of running out the door and then fall over, purring super loud through the entire event (she is funny to watch)  !!

We can leave her home for three or so days and she is fine with extra food and water, but we would like to travel out west and be gone for a month or more and being as we are in hurricane country we would have to shutter the house down tight and I would never leave her and would not want to put her in a strange boarding facility.

Has anyone actually traveled with a cat and been sucessful ???

Wow ... I just checked your itinerary, that is one heck of a trip. We have signed up for our first ever  tour with Adventure Caravans  November 7th through the 13th "7 DAYS IN THE SMOKIES"  we are both very excited but chose this one as we wanted to start out with something small to be sure we would like it, although we have been told that they are wonderful.

(nod)

Carolp495  I see Adventure Caravans has an all new website, so the link above no longer works.  The new link for Southern Exposure caravan is http://adventurecaravans.com/tours/regions/contiguousUS/contiguousUStourdetails.aspx?TCID=1102&hideSearch=true.  What you have signed up for is a rally; staying in one spot for the duration.  We have done three rallies (one in the Smokies) and two caravans.  Enjoyed all of them.  Everything planned but there are open times to do extra things you like or just take a breather.  Lots of activities, many meals, and all campgrounds reserved with driving directions.

We’re also signed up for Waltz Across Texas next year: http://adventurecaravans.com/tours/regions/contiguousUS/contiguousUStourdetails.aspx?TCID=1099&hideSearch=true; it would be cool to have another PC along!

Yes, we travel with 2 dogs, the old one is a westscott, half westie and half scottie, the young one is a crain terrier mix.
We love going on Adventure Caravans, and have been using them since 2004. We are going on the West Coast America tour this fall: http://www.adventurecaravans.com.dnnmax.com/tours/regions/contiguousUS/contiguousUStourdetailsitinerary.aspx?TCID=1103&hideSearch=true&AutoSearch=True%27;
then we are going to sign uo for the Winter Oasis Plus Hotspots of the Southwest : http://www.adventurecaravans.com/tours/regions/contiguousUS/contiguousUStourdetailsitinerary.aspx?TCID=1089&hideSearch=true&AutoSearch=True%27;
Jan 2014. Hope to see some PC on the way and on the trip, like GoPhoenix we will looking for you.

We traveled for 3 months with our precious golden retriever in our Class A.  He will go with us in our 2551 too and I suspect he'll lie on the floor just like he did before, close to us as he can.  He is trained to never get on the furniture and with twin beds, he won't have to chose whose side of the bed to sleep on.   roflol

I know for a fact that Earl from Phoenix Cruiser travels with a super sweet cat that will love on you if you happen to find yourself inside his Phoenix Cruiser at a campground.  :lol

We travel with Addie, our cat.  She likes to travel on the back of the headrest and watch the road ahead.  Here we are taking our afternoon "cat" nap.  She has a screen tent for outdoor time, it protects her from mean squirrels, she also has a harness for exploring and taking us for a walk.  She obviously likes RV travel because when we open the RV door in the garage she runs in and is ready to go.

Our dogs were a primary driver in getting an RV.  We frequently travel on long weekends to dog trials with Winston and Griffin, our Glen of Imaal terrors (no misprint), to earthdog, agility, obedience, tracking, rally, and barnhunt events.  No, you probably have never heard of a Glen of Imaal terrier as they are the 157th least popular akc breed.  We like to say our dogs are better behaved than 99% of children we meet.  They are used to traveling and Winston generally rides shotgun.  He finds the captain chair is to his liking.  We don't crate them during travel based on the controversial thinking that if we are in a severe accident and they are ejected, being crated probably won't save them.  Mark

Freckles, our 10# Papillon goes everywhere with us, even air travel.  He loves to go in the rvs, originally secured in an elevated perch but lastly would lay under the skirt of the passenger seat.  For years he slept in a crate but lately we let him sleep under the bed, his preference.  Has anyone built-in a doggie den under a bed in a PC?  Seems there would be room under the LS twin bed.

I know that Earl travels with a cat.  If you ever meet up with him at campgrounds or shows, you can always meet, "Stray" in whichever Cruiser Earl is in :lol.

We travel with our mini poodle that doesn't shed and is hypo-allergenic (note for those with allergies or future prospects for our PC  :-D). When we had a Class A, Riley (our dog) sat (mostly slept) on my wife's lap. After we got the PC, I became concerned about the airbag doing some serious damage to him. I bought a safety harness and secured it to the lap belt on the sofa. It took Riley several trips to accept the new position but he now sleeps without any whining during the ride.  :)

PS: Quite a surprise for both of us when I don't notice him on the top of the chair when I sit down.  :lol

It's not that I'm insensitive, it's probably that I just don't care. ;)

<inquiring for a friend> Does anyone have a 3100 and travel with their pets?  How do you ensure they are secure during travel?  Does anyone use the space under the dinette? Anyone travel with 4 little doggies?

Joni and I use Snoozers dog beds for both travel and bedtime, but we have a 2552 and only two little pups. http://www.snoozerpetproducts.com/pet-car-seats-c-26_33.html

Mike,
     We have a PC3100, travel with 2 dogs, we have to boxes behind each of the front seats, Use them only when on a long day sightseeing. Most the time when moving down the road the WestScott will set in the front set with the better half, and the younger and larger of the two will set in one of the chairs behind me. We have two chairs instead of the sofa bed. Hope this will help your friends, We love the PC3100. Would be better only if it have more storage space, used to pull a 33 foot FW.

Jim
