Nashville TN campground

Hello ....

I'm planning a week long stay in Nashville. Can anyone suggest a Good campground?

Near or within 20 miles of the city.

We always stay at one of the Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Nashville, but they're all closed from Oct to April/May.  I would suggest you check www.rvparkreviews.com for Nashville.

 Thanks for the response.  I have looked at the Nashville website, and COE site as well.

We have not camped at the COE campgrounds before, they appear to be very nice from what I'm reading online.

We plan on going to TN in Sept. byway of the Smoky Mts.

We have not been to that COE Park but have been to W.P Franklin just outside of Fort Myers and it is a Very well kept park.

We are planning to visit Lake Seminole COE park in September. We are not going to wander too far this coming year. Georgia and the Panhandle of Florida.

The good thing about COE parks is that they are Federal and if you have a Golden Age Pass it is 50% off.

Are you planning on going to the Reunion??

I'm planning our 2012 trips, picking campgrounds, routes and places.

In the Spring we'll be travelling along the Seaway Trail from NY to PA.

In June we're heading to Michigan via Canada.  In September we'll be going to the Great Smoky Mtns and Nashville TN.

Right now, it looks like we'll miss Texas and the Rally.

Since COE build dams, their campgrounds are by water.  Most have full hook=ups, paved/level sites, are very well maintained and you cant' beat the price ($7-$12 if you have the old codgers pass--golden age).  I will go out of the way to stay at one if possible (our Corps Camping book is in need of replacement).  We even volunteered at one for awhile.

Two summers ago we stayed at Two Rivers Camground in Nashville.  Nice campground with pool and good entertainment at night.  Close to downtown and Grand Olde Opry.  We traveled out west and I used Park Review .com at every stop and they were pretty accurate.

We have stayed more than once at Two Rivers Campground. It is a nice campground with a pool and entertainment just as another poster has said and it is just down the road from the new Opery house. Due to its good location we will probably go there again when we go back down to visit. I think there is a KOA a little further down the road from Two Rivers but we felt the cost excessive when comparing the two. Have fun!

It has been a few years, but Nashville, TN was a routine stop for us when we lived in Louisville, KY.

Two Rivers, a KOA and a JellyStone are all in the same area on the same road.  We never stayed at Jellystone.  Two Rivers is the smallest of them, it has dirt/gravel roads and sites with basic ammenities.  I would return there if only passing through for a night and if there hadn't been much rain in the past, present or future.  The KOA is more expensive of course, but it had more than basic amenities.  Roads and sites are paved.  We would return.

Most importantly, for fried catfish take a short walk to the "Cock of the Walk" restaurant !

ALTHOUGH ... we haven't been in the area since 2009 so some of this may have changed !

We live here in Nashville and my office was literally a short walk from Two Rivers Campground for several years.  Someone mentioned in an earlier post to check out rvparkreviews.com which is an excellent suggestion - we use that resource a LOT in hunting potential camping sites.  Anyway, Two Rivers Campground and Jellystone Park are both very nice, very well maintained, and very convenient.  A KOA sits a bit farther down the road, and it's also nice, but seems to stay less occupied that the others, I'm guessing because of of the always-premium cost you find at KOA's.

Very close by is the Grand Ole Opry House, where the Opry returns after a winter at the Ryman Auditorium downtown.  Cock of the Walk is a great restaurant (fried catfish, hush puppies, fries, fried pickles, fried......) seriously it's  very good, but you'll get your grease quotient for the day.  Logan's Steakhouse just built a brand new restaurant very close by and it's great. We eat there once a week. 

If you need any more tips or info on Nashville, give me shout. We are in the music business so we know the spots see hear great live music, if that's of interest to you.

I'm so glad that I posted my question to this Forum. So many great replies. I appreciate the help, and suggestions from all.

Classact, you may be hearing from us when the time comes for our trip. Our main interests are tours, Old country musicians, and museums.

I'm a big Skeeter Davis fan, so I'll be seeking out a few of old records.

Several great museums to check out, always great *real* country music on Monday nights at The Station Inn (The Time Jumpers, featuring Vince Gill when he's in town). You might find the graves of Roy Acuff and Jimmy Martin interesting - I bring that up because they are just 2 miles from these campgrounds.    Happy to help if we can!
