A friend sent this tome:

Got my son an iPhone for his birthday the other week and

recently got my daughter an iPod for hers .

I was thrilled when the family got together and bought me an iPad for Father’s day.

Got my wife an iRon for her birthday.

It was around then the fight started......

I had problems with my first two concerning battery life and charging. Apple replaced them for free. What problems do you have?

three 81/2 x 11 ruled paper with problems. The last few times I was in a Sudoku game, in my mail and trying to check how much data I used the iPad went black then booted back up, just like I turned it off then powered. Prior to that different problems. I'll be calling the mac store in Fresno requesting a NEW one.

I am thinking of getting my wife an ipad for Christmas --- is there something I should know before I buy?  If I got her an iron, she'd probably throw it at me!

There might be problems with all of them. I would check with best buy, see if they have a 30 day exchange. or some store like "Best Buy" a good electronics store.

Sorry to hear your having trouble. I've owned an I pad for 1 1/2 years and haven't experienced any such problems especially battery life. I bought mine from an apple store and bought the extended warranty. Which also includes classes in setup and use . Sometimes an app will close and re openin which it seems to be updating especially newspapers on which you can control under settings. Perhaps you could be more specific.

I’ll try to explain. 6 pages of constant problems. It started with and most of the problems were in the middle of something the iPad would go BLACK, then the apple logo and it would boot back up like I turned off the power and turned it back on. This happened in Mail, Safari, Sudoku, Posting here and I had just turned it on and sliding from one side to the other on the main screen and BLACK. Today at the Apple I presented all my paper work and now have a new iPad. By the way I restored it 3 times and shortly afterwards, same problem. I restored and did NOT load any apps, same problem. Today at the Apple store I posted a reply here, it as usual posted fine, went back to the main screen here, THEN it happened again. I guess you could call it fate, just locked up with the Apple Logo. About ten minutes latter the tech came over for my meeting handed him the iPad.

Glad to hear that apple took care of you. I love their products and have always seen them stand behind them and make things right. Much like Phoenix cruisers.

I too am glad to hear that they took care of your problems. I have never experienced any problems like that with mine, and I got it last year at Half Christmas, I think.  Half Christmas 2010.  My kids use it non-stop.  I use it a lot myself when on the go, but they're always playing games, texting, music, etc. on it all day every day (we homeschool and a lot of their educational apps are on there). My problem was that on two different devices it began taking several hours to charge, and would say "not charging" while it was doing the (slow) charge. Both times they replaced it.  The first time they gave me a little grief since it was out of warranty, I didn't have Apple Care, and there was a dent in the back of it, but since I could prove that it started after an operating system update, they replaced it.  The second one happened within a couple of weeks of getting it, but the third time was charm. I now keep it in a pretty sturdy case too.  They told me not to charge it using the iMac and data cable, but to only charge it using the wall adapter that came with the iPad, so that's what I do.

So far so good. All I'm using is just what it came with. I do have  my mail and a couple on safari. But no apps yet and no problems. I have been doing sudoku on my mac book pro and have no problem there. I'll keep plugging  along for a few more days then reinstall my sudoku. Aimee, what mail do u use? I sometime have troubles getting all my "favorite book marks" loaded, maybe sometime I could pick ur mine?

You can pick away.  I don't mind.
