2023 2552 Heater Not Igniting
« on: May 23, 2025, 04:29:03 pm »
Hello, seems I can not get the heater to ignite. I have tried working the thermostat as directed but the unit will not respond in any way . I would like to locate a fuse or breaker prior to removing the unit . Can someone point me to a fuse location . The one under the curb side bed does not seem to be where it is located unless I'm not reading it correctly . Thank you in advance .

No comment on the fuse location, but confirm that you are using the correct thermostat.  The one in the front controls the furnace.  We tried several times and thought something was wrong but realized the one in the back only controls the rear AC.

Thank you for the reply . Yes it is the one in the back. Not sure where to go from here on this issue . The thermostat does come on but that is all it does. I have done a reset 3x as directed however still nothing . Not even a click , nada :(  But I will not give up so keep the ideas coming Gents :)

I looked through all of my documents and diagrams but I don't see a separate 12 volt fuse for my furnace.  So I took out the drawers over the furnace to get a better look and the wire going to it is the same color as the one for all of the lights on the rear  of the RV.  So I suspect it is just one more thing on that fuse.

This may be an obvious question, but do your 12 volt lights work? And, can you see the 12 volt wire to your furnace and is it the same color as one connected to a fuse for your lighting (on whatever side of the rv it is) ?

Here's what I have for my 2900D. But no guarantee yours is the same. (sorry)
1st fuse is for tank heaters (red wire).
2nd fuse is drivers side and bathroom vent fan  (red wire)
3rd fuse is passenger side and front vent fan (blue wire)
4th fuse is rear and rear vent fan (yellow, wire).  This yellow wire appears to go to my furnace as well. Since my furnace is in a small area under the main closet and I have a ceramic blanket on it, it's not easy to see.

I am not sure this applies, but here is my furnace story.

Back in the summer of 2007 when our rig was brand new, our first trip was summertime so we never tried the furnace until during that trip when we camped at Brainard Lake CO, a high altitude campground which is over 10,000 feet.  It was getting cold as the sun was setting.  I tried to get the furnace to run, but got no response.  In despiration, I removed the outside access panel to the furnace and discovered a switch.  I hit it and voila.

A word of caution.  NEVER run your furnace with that outside panel removed.  While the furnace was running, the interior was getting asphyxiated.  It is a warning concerning the gasket on that access panel.  For you with older PCs, make sure that gasket is in good condition.

To be clear, you are trying to use the thermostat in the back, correct?  That is how I read your reply.  If so, that is the WRONG thermostat for the furnace.  The furnace is controlled by the front thermostat.

Thank you for the reply guys. that wire color is an interesting idea. I wonder if you have to have the heater for the tank on at the same time. There is a switch in the bathroom. I can try that. It is a bit cool still this morning, even here in the Carolina's. good tip on that door cover. I would not think of spending much time with the cover off. But just the same good advice. as to the thermostat I've tried every combination. What gets me about this issue is it will not even click. It does appear that no power is going to the unit itself, which led me down the road of a fuse location. Been back home dealing with other items So you know how this goes. Summers around the corner. out of sight Out of mind. But when time allows, I would love to take care of this as it's a loose end And Lord knows I've got too many of those. LOL again. Thanks guys. If I come up with something or you guys think there's something else we can close this thread out with some success I hope.  nothing bothers me more than a thread that does not end with a solution. :)

You've got me wondering which 12v fuse my furnace is on. I doubt if it is on the tank heater fuse (the top one) ,,, as those heat pads can use a lot of amps. So I'm betting it is on a fuse for the lights... And it is likely to be on which ever side/end of the coach it resides since there isn't a dedicated fuse.  I've got to check my 2900 in storage anyway this week. I'll let you know what I find. I think the easiest way will be to
A. Make sure my furnace will start and then shut it off.
B. Remove one of the fuses for the lights and try the furnace again to see if it fails.
C. Repeat for the next fuse, and the next...

Somewhere in this process I'll find which one supports it. I'll let you know.

Thank you. You were correct. the adjustment through the dometic in the front and the rear is only for the air condition. No big deal, just too cold mornings. LOL. Thank you. This  is a great place to come and to learn. So just to wrap up this thread, the dometic in the front, not. only controls the air condition in the front It also controls the heater in the rear. Thank you for the help

This question has been lingering in the back of my mind.  I dug up the installion manual for an atwood furnace and noticed on the wiring diagram that there is a circuit breaker inside the furnace.  Right, who knew?

I also see that item "D" is located on the outer housing of the blower motor. I can't confirm if "D" is the breaker, but following the lines on the 2 diagrams leads me to think they might be the same.  Either way, take a look for a circuit breaker inside the furnace. I would think it is visible once you remove the outer door.
See attached pics.
