Cabin air filter

Something I started to look into 2 years back but health issues changed my focus.  I can’t find any listing for a cabin air filter for my 2011 E450.  Heck I can’t even find where if it exists it may be located.  Is it possible there isn’t one?  I’m finally doing well enough health wise that we’re planning a 7,000 mile trip and I’m attempting to address as much as possible in preventative maintenance but I’m scratching my head on this one.

Every year of the Ford E150, E250, E350, and E450 DOES NOT HAVE A CABIN AIR FILTER.  A brand new 2024 E450 does not have one.

How many miles are on your 2011 2552 E450-V10?

The basic design of the Ford E-series cab is virtually unchanged since 1990.  I suppose that is one reason why the E-series chassis is so much more affordable than the others.....keeping it unchanged and simple.

  We are on our third E-350/E-450 chassis since 1992 (with a large DP in between from 2004-2019) and agree with Ron's comment on reliability. Our 1992 E-350 "Establishment" by Thor was the V8 with air bags; an early year of the "new" Ford design/chassis. Never an issue except the suspension was inadequate, the supplemental air bags immediately blew out and all the early chassis were recalled. Our 2003 Infinity Class A by Thor had the fairly new V10 and was horribly underpowered. But overall very reliable. Our 2019 3100 with the V10 has had no chassis issues. When we bought it used from the factory in 2020 they had offered to sell us a new 3100 with the new V8. We opted not to take another "new" engine and are very happy with the 2019. Although I have not heard of any serious issues with the new V8.

I read that the first year or two, there was one or two issues with the new Ford-V8 engine.  I don't know if there was a recall to address them, but I was under the impression, the issues were related to components, vacuum lines, and/or wiring mounted on the engine, NOT internal to the engine itself.  So if you have an early 7.3L-V8 engine and develop a problem, there is a permanent remedy.  You don't have to live with a lame duck for the rest of your time with that engine.

Ron, I haven’t heard much about issues in the last year.  I think it’s been worked out. If there were two new rigs, one with the v10 and one with the new v8 it would be a no brainer for me. The v10 as reliable as its history is now a dead horse. In a few years no one will want the v10 buying in the used market.  That alone, not counting the additional power, power range itself and  easier to get at plugs and service.  For me it matters little, unless some unforeseen circumstance destroyed our rig I doubt I’ll live long enough to need another one.

So there is no cabin air filter in an E450 correct?

Sadly, that is correct for all years of E450's.


I wanted one to reduce tree pollen (allergies!) and to keep out the dust I encounter on country roads.  I tried making one and put it under the air intake grill just in front of the windshield. It was not very effective at blocking pollen... But it did keep the mosquitoes out and reduce (but not eliminate) the dust. Let me know if you want details.

My V10 is great!

Our V10, our entire PC has to outlast Irene and me.  Being that we are both 68 years old this year, we hope that is many more years to come.

We have not had our PC out last year in 2025 at all, and not yet this year, very very sad.  Between my stage 4 lymphoma (in remission since treatment concluded in 12/2024), and continuing to fight a monumental personal matter that has far over-shadowed my fight with cancer, we are hoping to get back in our PC, out on the road later this year in 2026.
