Solar Panel wiring

  Need to run the wiring from roof to power panel compartment. Any good place put a hole in the roof to pull the wires. Thanks for any information.  2007 - 2551- E450
           

If you can access your oven vent you can get to roof with no holes. However you can drill holes anywhere except where you have the roof square tubs, since that is where they run wires for the lights.

Thanks for the info. Well appreciated. Planning on adding 2 renogy 100 watt panels. Already installed 2 - 100 amp hr lithium batteries, renogy on board battery charger with MPPT, and a renogy battery monitor. How did you mount your panels to the roof ? I am planning on the front like yours.

I used self drilling screws through the roof. At least on one end I ran screws into the RV roof aluminum channels.
1-1/2" Aluminum angles and sealed with Dicor.

It is a good idea to have an air gap under the panels, it helps to keep them cooler and prolong their life.  Mine are mounted to unistruls that are screw to the roof.  Wiring comes through the roof above the front most compartment on the drivers side.  My Victron charge controller is mounted there and the wiring runs down behind the bulkhead, then under the van and back to my lithium batteries.  Used this gland with 3M VHB tape and screws covered with Dicor.

If your charge controller is further away from the batteries like parkgt, make sure you use a large wire size from there to the batteries. You want very little voltage drop.

Yes, on larger gauge. I decided on 8ga and it seems to be fine.
