Removing Dometic Slide Topper
« on: May 07, 2022, 10:30:42 pm »
The top outside seal, on one of my slides, has started to come loose.  Unfortunately, where it's coming off, is located in the middle of the top of the slide.  To re "secure" the seal the best thing to do would be remove the Dometic slide topper so I can access the area.  I would appreciate if anyone has removed the slide topper provide me how best to do that.  The top seal is still attached on each side of the slide; it's the middle section that has come loose.
thanks

Dave

Any RV dealer shop that carries RV slide toppers and just replace the fabric.  It's a relatively simple process but typically requires 2 people.

Hello I have removed the slide topper on my 2017 2552. It was very easy, the hardest part was aligning the hole to put the pin in on the roller ends. My slide is remote control so that helped me align the pin and I did it by myself. The 2552 has a channel on the RV that the topper slides into, what's cool is that this channel extends all the way down the side. So you open the slide, align the hole in the end of toppers tube that the topper rolls up on and pin. Then you close the slide some to get slack in the topper fabric. Then just slide the fabric out of the tube and down the channel. I let the fabric hang in the channel that's mounted to the RV that runs down the entire side.

Here is a link to a video that explains how to do it, I am not sure if the 2910 gives you a channel all the way down the side like the 2552. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDKCSwYXbH0.  This video shows you removing the entire fabric, I didn't have to because of the channel on the side . On the 2552 I just removed the Philips screw in the channel where the aluminum cover mounted. That way I only removed the fabric from the tube and allowed me to just hang the fabric down the side of the rv once it was completely out of the tube.  This made it simple and easy for me to do by myself.

Not sure if this helps, you may need someone to run the slide so you align the holes to pin the topper tube. Hey just so you understand I never removed the tube from the slide, there is no reason to unless you need to do maintenance to the tube. If you have some more questions just PM me.

Just took a picture of the channel that is mounted on the side of the 2552.

Very Respectfully
Lance
