Newbie here- best option for rear view when driving
« on: March 07, 2022, 05:26:17 am »
 :help
Just purchased 2017 - doing my test rides to get used to everything. So far so good.
Yesterday was my first night time drive. Very unnerving not seeing rear view.
Any recommendations on dash cam or rear cameras that show what the heck is behind u while on the road
Thanks in advance

Not too sure I know what you mean?  Mirrors each side pretty much let you know what's behind you.  I turn my rear view camera off at night; it's too distracting.

I keep the backup monitor on and with the side view mirrors on the doors I don't have any issues in traffic.  The backup monitor uses infrared light so there is no glare for drivers behind me.

I have found this useful when applied to the rear window and viewed from my inside rear view mirror.  Not perfect but it does allow a wider view of what is directly behind you.  Works on a 2552 as well as probably other PC layouts

BERNNIENJ, basic question:  does your PC not have a back up camera?

Bernnienj,  if you don't already have a backup camera, or the one you do have is no longer working,  you can add or replace your camera.  My old visor-mounted backup camera died and i replaced it with a TADI BROTHER'S unit
that fits over my existing rearview mirror.   It's a beautiful color upgrade, the old one being black and white.  Sharp, bright, amazing difference.    No wires to the front of the coach.   Just get power from the rear, upper marker light next
to it,  and tap into the power wire to the old one up front,  they talk to eachother wirelessly.

It even doubles as a rear view mirror when it's not on.

Yes. It has a back up monitor but it is pointed down. Not sure how or if it would help while driving.
The tailgaters are back there so I can’t see them. Wonder how I would know if an ambulance is back there
I don’t have cameras on the mirrors or side of vehicle.
Just wondered if there was an add on that would show what was behind me

Ooooo this is what I think I need. Nothing on a screen below that I have to look down for.
Thanks will look it up.

You can adjust your camera for the angle it views.  I adjusted our camera to see further behind me because, like you, I wanted to know what was back there.  Finally, I replaced the Sony that came in our rig with a wireless unit from Amazon that has a great range of depth and absolute clarity.   I mounted the monitor in the same place as the old camera was located.

Bernie,

You could mount a new camera "In Place Of" the inside rear view mirror.  I did this years ago and still like it very much.

Our PC is a 2007 model year.  Some model year later, Phoenix changed to shorter outside mirror arms.  There are benefits and drawbacks to each one.  Here are our long 2007 mirror arms.  Obviously we can see behind the PC a little better with longer arms, but our back-up camera provides the best view in daylight.
