Roof Maintenance
« on: November 03, 2021, 06:21:53 pm »
I wash my PC often & always wash the roof. I use a liquid RV soap/wax to wash & hand wax twice a year. What are ya'll using on the roof for protection. I have two AC units, 360 antenna, two solar panels, three vents & the shower dome on the roof. My class a had a smooth vinyl roof that was easy to wax. The PC roof is textured & not easy to wax. I guess I could use a liquid wax but it would still be hard to hand buff out. Our PC stays outside in the North Carolina weather so I try my best to keep it looking new. Thanks for your replies, Chuck :)

IMO there is no need to wax the roof.  Just keep it clean.

I wash my roof and components on it with Nu Finish car wash, no wax as wax will make the roof slippery to walk on, especially if it is damp.

The only thing I have ever used on my roof other than soap and water was 303 protectant.
That was on my previous 5th wheel which I owned for 15 years and the roof was still in good shape when I sold it.
As were the  decals on the  sides which got the same treatment, just a little more often.
Was thinking of starting a similar regimen on the PC roof.

I hand wash my rig often using a foam cannon and low powered electric pressure washer, but only wash the roof twice a year.  When I do, I use soapy water and a stiff bristle brush.  I wash the shower dome and bathroom vent cover using a soapy micro cloth.  The only thing I wax are the two AC covers and two exhaust fan covers.  So far that seems to work very well.

People with older PCs who keep them outside exposed to the elements, are noticing fine fiberglass hairs sticking up on the roof sheathing.  I imagine putting some kind of protectant, wax or otherwise on a disciplined basis, would prevent this breakdown of the sheathing.  Which protection is best is surely up for discussion.

I personally do not use any type of protectant, yet not seen the roof hair on our 2007 PC.  But our PC is always protected in our garage when at home, with temperatures maintained between 60 and 80 degrees throughout the year.

Thanks for the replies. I have used Rejex polymer wax & 303 protectant for years on all my rv's. 303 doesn't last as long but is very easy to use. When using Rejex, only do small areas at a time. If the wax is allowed to dry for more than a few minutes, it is very hard to buff out. I use both on all surfaces, paint, glass & diamond sheild. Using Rejex on the front makes removing bugs easy. Both products leave a very slick surface. On the roof, apply from front to back & down the ladder. Do not walk on the roof after applying 303.  :) Chuck
