flat towing hybrid mercury mariner
« on: April 11, 2011, 11:01:50 pm »
Has anyone flat towed or tried to tow this vehicle? We have a 2010 2551 model Phoenix Cruiser and love it, but
would really like to have a bit more freedom.  Most of our camping in Michigan is up north and
a dirive to dinner or whatever.  We have 2 Yorkies and a cat so don't want to leave in our cruiser with it running
whenever going into town., We have  a 2010 mariner and do not want to go out and buy another car.  Any thoughts
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Road Buddy

Roadmaster sells a tow bar bracket specific for the 2010 Mariner as shown here.

I would consider 4-wheel towing it.

Part of your research should include reading through your owners manual in the section on 4-wheel-down towing.  Some vehicles require occasional "run time in-gear" for example, every 500 miles, put it into drive, then reverse, back and forth a few times while holding down the brake pedal.  The Honda CRV has that requirement.

If your Mariner has an extra gear shift lever for 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive low, 4-wheel drive high, and neutral, you are gauranteed save to tow without fussing every so often as long as that gear shift lever is in neutral while towing.

Motorhome Magazine says the 2010, in the 2010 towing guide, is okay to flat tow. http://motorhome.tl.com/dinghytowingguide/
Got the prerequisites that Ron mentioned.
The guides are top right corner.

And they had a pop up Phoenix Cruiser ad to boot.
