2008 phoenix cruiser 2551 transfer switch
« on: July 28, 2021, 06:22:11 pm »
We were camping - dry docking with no electric hookup - generator only.  Generator was on, AC was on - turned on hair dryer and power went off.  Reset the GFCI switch and now outlets work.  AC and convection oven would not work the rest of trip.  Got home - plugged into electric - AC worked.  Unplugged electric and tried generator only - AC did not work.  Trying to find transfer switch.  Looked on the wing behind driver's side door but not there.  Not under the couch/bed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Based on your description, I suspect the over-load switch on your generator has "tripped".

Remove the Onan generator cover and find the reset switch facing you.

Be certain you secure the Onan cover back on properly.  It is very easy to do it wrong and loose it on the road.  The cover is critical for the generator to self-cool properly, and it is very expensive to replace.

Second what Ron said...  you overloaded the generator and popped it's 30A circuit breaker.  Just reset the breaker and you should be fine.  It is located about mid way fore/aft of the generator, mounted in a small panel that faces to the rear.  You may not see it with a quick glance. It's down low on the generator. It is smaller than a household breaker, but works the same way.

The Captain is right.

The location of the reset switch is actually on the right side of the little control panel.  The arrow is pointing at the little lever.  To reset it, move it one way then the other way.

Ok I have a 2012 PC 2910. This happened to me and after resetting the generator, it happened again. The transfer switch was the problem.I felt around in the rug on the wall behind the drivers seat and found the phillips head LONG screw , removed the screw and found the transfer switch. While shunting between shore power and generator I saw a FLASH from the breaker in the transfer box.....called PC and was told " Oh, we never heard of this...the transfer switch never goes bad"....solution, take a pic of the wire set up inside the box..disconnect the shore power, order a new box from Amazon abt $145.00  install, problem solved. good luck
