Refer on while traveling?

Refer on while traveling?

I have always traveled with the refrigerator off, but am told to leave it on.  I'm curious -- do most trave with it on?  If so, do you leave it in the elec. mode and let the inverter handle it, or do you leave it in "gas" or "auto" and let the gas control?  If in the gas mode, do you shut it off while fueling?

I believe either way is OK as long as I can remember to turn it on when we stop.    roflol   I have mine on auto but did not realize the frig was on the inverter. I will probably leave it on auto, its easier for us. We turn it off when fueling.

We turn ours on auto and leave it on until we get back home.
I always forget to turn off when fueling.
I know it is recommended but as I get older I get dumber. >(

We leave it on "auto" when traveling.  On my 2010 2551, the inverter does not operate the refer, so it is always on propane when traveling.  When we get gas, my wife turns off the refer while I fill, I think this is important as the propane flame and spark igniter are only a few feet from the gas fill.

I am surprised that your refer runs on the inverter.  You can verify this by switching the refer to manual AC while not plugged into shore power, on mine, the display goes to "A" indicating no AC available even with the inverter on.

We leave the fridge on auto from the day before we leave (I installed a 30amp service panel close to where I park at home) until we get back.  While driving, it runs on propane.  We turn it off during fueling because you never know where those fumes go or accumulate, and one spark can ruin your whole day.

      I guess I am the only one that ordered a three way fridge.  When on the road we are always on DC.  No problems when we stop for gas as it is on DC.  On the road there is no open flame in case of an accident and this has been the standard for the RV industry for years.  When we stop overnight and plug in we go to Auto which usually allows AC to take over and if no AC available propane becomes the source.  If we go aboard a ferry or tunnel where no propane is allowed, we are on DC.  Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the info --- Bob, I"m not sure about the inverter controlling the refer -- just assumed (you know what that means!) it did.  I didn't have an inverter on the 2350, but I'll check it out.  I am also afraid I'll forget to turn it off when fueling, Tom --- the wife will probably remind me!!!
Bob, (gl1500), the DC option is a great idea -- I know most everyone runs with the refer on auto, or propan--- I guess it is wushful thinking the inverter would take over in lieu of a "DC" fridge..

Good idea to order a 3-way refer.  Our 1995 truck camper came with the 3-way refer and I always ran it on DC on the road, wish I had thought to order one on the PC.

Me too --- If the inverter was connected to the fridge, it would do the same thing, wouldn't it?

Not a bad idea, the inverter can handle the load and the engine alternator would keep the batteries charged while driving.  Just have to remember to switch over when stopped long or dry camping as the batteries would drain fast.
