HWH Levelers Leak
« on: July 05, 2021, 08:48:06 pm »
Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has some insight as to my recent adventure with the HWH levelers on our 2015 2910T. Last Friday we pulled into a site and commenced to leveling the van. Surprised (to say the least) to see a gusher of hydraulic fluid coming from BOTH rear jacks. This made for a very brief long weekend. Any info would be very much appreciated before I bring in for repair.

Thanks Very Much,
Tom and Linda

You might try Paul Maddox , email pfmaddox@att.net, phone # 1-602-549-3638. I have seen Paul being referenced in other RV forums as some one that does or has worked for HWH and had been very helpful.  I have never communicated with him.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.  It was meant in good spirit, not disrespectful.  Hopefully it is a simple DIY repair.

Ron if we all looked at levelers and slides like you do we wouldn’t have air conditioning, convection ovens, macerators or awnings as well.

On my phone it’s hard to see in the picture. Can you tell if it’s coming from the hose connections or the ram itself? A hydraulic hose is an easy fix. I’ve never looked that closely at the ram itself to see if it’s designed to be rebuilt. Are both leaking at exactly the same place?

I zoomed in a bit on it. It looks like it is coming out of the mounting flange bolt.  I would have thought the cylinder casting would be solid there. OBVIOUSLY under pressure!

It is very funny you guys say this because that is exactly where Irene and I came from.  Buying our PC as we ordered it, is comparing a trailer park house to a house in Malibu.

Our previous motorhome did NOT have........
roof a/c
bathroom
stove
oven
plumbing
TV

It was "extremely basic, stripped as could be yet still considered a motorhome

Even the chassis itself "LACKED"......
power (the 2.4L carbureted engine with CA emissions, outputted only 96HP)
automatic transmission
power steering
cruise control
radio (I added one later)
power windows, power door locks, power mirrors

On a iPad I zoomed in and I agree on volks view. Not actually under it looking but just by using wag it appears it may be nothing more than a seal leak. Again that’s just an observation. Puzzling that both are leaking and I’m assuming from the same place? Possibly overlooked torque specs in assembly?

If they both started leaking at the same time, it might make me wonder if whatever regulates the pressure went bad.
Probably a pressure bypass in the pump or an eternal relief valve?

Hi, appreciate the replies. They are helpful. After pondering this for a bit I was heading towards a similar  (and so far, uneducated opinion….), that since both jacks started leaking simultaneously, that perhaps those seals were doing what they are designed to do and are leaking to avoid an over pressure situation. Perhaps the failure is in the pump and valve portion of the system. I’m ‘in the queue to speak with HWH (two week wait on support call backs) and will attempt to speak with Stuart’s Service next week as most of Elkhart was shut down last week. Will post when I know more. Thanks again.

Seems leak was due to leaking jack actuators. Left actuator showed clear crack in unit at top where bolt threads. Right unit didn’t but was surely leaking. Thanks to FandJ who suggested calling Chuck at Stuart’s Service. He was able, with some instructions to me and an additional detailed photo, to diagnose. Got new actuators to me two days later. Ten days after that, units were installed and we are back to leveling again. Thanks again to all for the help.
