Gap in floor beneath the dinette seat storage drawer
« on: May 29, 2021, 07:35:56 pm »
Today, when searching for the location of the inverter in our PC2910T, I removed one of the dinette seats. When I extended the storage drawer, I noticed a 3-4" gap in the floor which was open to the outside when the slide is extended (see pic attached, taken looking down on the open gap).  This could result in loss of AC or heat or could allow critters to enter the coach.  Shouldn't this gap be covered with something?

Anyone have this gap in their coach?

Oh my!

I don't have any slideouts so I wouldn't know if that is normal or not, but I agree with you in that it doesn't seem right at all.

Wow!
We have a slide, but the way it operates there is no way a gap can be open on the floor. All openings are on the side. But we have an old 2006.

If you want to wander over to Sebastian sometime I can (I HOPE!!) help you out with some of these problems. Mrs V would love to see a 2910.

Thanks for the response.  Sebastian is not too far from Orlando.  Send me your contact info & we can talk about a time whenmy wife & I can drive over to see you guys.  This is our sixth motorhome, but our first Phoenix Cruiser, we'd love to chat about PC's.

I have this same gap on my 2400, when the slide is out there's an opening on the slide floor that allows cold and critters access to the inside of the coach. We camp in freezing temps, the opening is below the closet, when we open the closet it feels like a freezer in there. We boondock in the desert, last winter I saw a man put a 5 foot rattlesnake in a barrel, I couldn't help but think how easily that snake could crawl into my PC. The opening allows the slide to go out without interfering with an electrical post that is mounted solid, I've seen this on cheap trailers. A man told me to cut a pool noodle to fit in the opening but I'd have to remember to take it out when I put the slide in. I asked the factory if they could eliminate that opening and they didn't think so. No one seems to be too concerned about this. Any ideas.

I have the same gap in my 2910T. Attached are a couple of photos of the inside of the dinette seat and from below the slide. It looks like all PC does is use two pieces of overlapping rubber to cover these gaps in all of their slides. Since you can clearly see light through yours from the top the rubber flaps may be missing on yours.  Sure isn't a very weather tight way do seal these gaps.

My flaps to cover the gap are in place and you're right Kevin, it's not a weather tight way to seal the opening.  I was wondering if anyone ever figured out how to eliminate the need for the gap?

It looks like Bruce is missing the rubber flaps.

Thanks, guys, the responses & pics.  Yes, it appears my coach is missing the rubber closing the gap.  Guess the previous owner never noticed.  I'll contact PC USA to see if that rubber piece can be ordered.  If not, I'll try to figure out what I can attach from the bottom of the coach to close it up.  We have a lot of gheckos (lizards) in Florida & they love to find places to "camp."
