RV door keyless entry

RV door keyless entry

Hi all,

My 2552 has a 4 1/2” X 4 1/2” cut out in the side door.  Has anyone put a keyless entry system in that fits that size opening?  Such as Bauer, RV LOCK, ETC?

If so, what brand / model did you go with and what are your thoughts on the lock?
So far, the Bauer NE will not work due to the size of the lock itself compared to the cut out of my door.   
I think the RV Lock model (class A or C) will work but I may have to cut the door cut out even larger. 

Any thoughts and links that you may have would be greatly appreciated.

we just bought a new 2351 and the auto door lock will not work the door is shut, but we looked at several videos and it does not look too hard, have a guy coming on mondaty to put in a new one, its Bauer, we called then and the sent a now lock, what a pain though --good luck

Don’t the new ones come with that style of lock anyway?  I am looking at aftermarket.  Maybe I misunderstood your reply.  Bummer that you are experiencing that on a new coach.

Below is the text from a post I made a while back about my experience with the Bauer lock. As an update, it is working great and I like it.
The model I got is the Bauer EM Bluetooth. It fit in the opening no problem. Don't see it on their website now.

Frank: Glad things are getting close for your rig. Hopefully all will turn out well.

I installed the Bauer EM BT today. Install was not quite as smooth as I had hoped.

First, because the PC paint job was done after the original latch was installed, there is no paint behind the old latch and the new latch does not cover the old footprint.
Nothing a bit of the touch up paint PC provided can't fix, but something I hoped I wouldn't have to do. That will have to wait till warmer weather.

The other issue I ran into was the position of the strike plate. After fiddling with it for over an hour and not being able to find a position where the door latched tightly AND the deadbolt could engage, I finally gave in and took the Dremel to the mounting holes so I could move the strike plate more towards the outside of the rig. This seemed to work  but I ran out of time before I got it perfect. It's now latching well but the door is a bit tight to open. Didn't have time to program it yet either.

I did end up swapping in the Bauer strike plate even though they seemed dimensionally identical because the old plate was a dull galvanized looking thing and the Bauer plate has a more shiny / clean looking plating.

All in all it seems like a well made product. though the key/tumbler and deadbolt mechanism have a slightly cheaper / lighter feel to them than the original but seem to work well.

Hopefully next weekend I'll get a chance to fiddle with it some more and get it completed.

Ok, I got back to it: A little more work with the dremel and the door works as it should and the deadbolt works smoothly.
The touch up paint was a bit of a hassle because the diamond shield is also cut around the original lock and interferes with getting a smooth color and clear coat touch up buffed out properly without damaging the diamond shield.
It came out ok but not perfect.

All in all I am happy with the Bauer and the Bluetooth is a neat feature.

Thank you very much Jim. Sounds like there are modifications to be done, and although I am very handy, I am not inclined to start making modifications like this at the moment.

Jim,

So you opened up the holes/slots on the door jam? I was tring to open up the opening in the striker for the dead bolt maybe that why I couldn't get it to work. I will try again and use the old striker.

Frank, I think I did a bit of both. At first I did the openings but got better results when I elongated the slots a bit si I could move the strike plate outwards.
I just ran out to take a pic or two but in the darkness, the flash make them useless. Will try to get a shot or two Thursday morning.

Gixxerkid3: Hpe it goes well for you. I watched a bunch of videos which showed the install as a 10 minute deal.
But I spent hours on mine trying to get it right, and then hours again trying to make the touch up paint look acceptable.
I think I needed to move the strike plate as far outward as I could without it hitting the back side of the door.

To my surprise, the lock arrives today rather than June 2nd as scheduled.  I will post some pics or a link to a video once installed If I can.

Well pics are too large to load but the install went well.  Had to dremel down a weld in the inside of the door and adjust the striker plate.  Works well.

Glad it went well. If I recall the RVLock units come with an oversized gasket or sticker to cover any unpainted areas?
If so did you need to use it?
I wish Bauer had provided something like it.

It does not come with a sticker but you can purchase one for about $6.00.  I did not need it. It looks nice but it’s HUGE.  LOL
